Correct. A Yorkshire Parliament needn't mean more government. The waste is Whitehall, councils, four mayoral structures and public bodies all with their own administration. Proper devolution should replace fragmentation, moving powers from Whitehall, streamlining local government. bit.ly/4yFdCEs

Is not really significant given councils do not have much power. Certainly, having coalitions taking ages to form wouldn't be so great. To get PR in Westminster, we need proper regional devolution (e.g. London, Yorkshire, W Midlands) and introduce PR there like Labour started in 1998 already.

So true Andy Brown. Local democracy remains vital against harmful developments, as proven by councillors. The central government may push local councils at any cost but local democracy makes sure it fits the area. Without this, Scarborough's landscape and economy would suffer.
