My husband’s family is from Calabria and this is spot on. Working the mines in WV and getting paid in “scrip” was a step up for his dad and grandparents and they were absolutely not considered white, Even after moving to Detroit.

I haven’t been posting much at all because of the horrors. Just reading my feed takes it out of me. Anyway I recently stayed at The Siren Hotel in the Wurlitzer building with my bestie and all I can say is go there if you get the chance!
