I've tried orange block-style heaters like that (not the same brand) and they didn't work well for my birds. The heaters I've had success with are the metal cylindrical ones with a heat lamp inside. My parrots love those.

This week's yokai: the Koganeyama monster! It haunted the forests of what is now part of Fukuoka Prefecture, attacking people who went into the mountains to collect firewood. It's carapace was strong enough to stop bullets! Read more for free on my Patreon: www.patreon.com/theyokaiguy/...

I used one for a few days, but it didn't catch on. Its just transferring the problem from your back to your feet/knees. The real solution is to develop good habits about taking breaks. Set a timer and take a 5 minute stretch/walking break at the start of every hour. Something like that.

That kind of reminds me of When a Stranger Calls, which has one of the most chilling opening sequences that shook me as a kid, and then immediately turned into the lamest, most uninteresting detective story I've ever watched.

Matthew Meyer @yokai.com · 18/09/2026

Fascinating!!! Thanks for sharing that! :)

Yes, this guy seems like a blend of mantis and walking stick. Except it's hard to account for the 70 cm size!

お〜！鳥取県でも展示したんですね！私は５月に兵庫県立歴史博物館で見ました！大変おもしろい絵巻物ですね！

The face was creepy, but that sound was probably the most chilling part of it! It sticks with you and makes up for the fact that the rest of the movie wasn't particularly memorable.

This October! Yokai are coming to Takefu Kiku Ningyo! I will be doing a talk event on 10/25 with Nagano Eishun, co-author of Echizen-Wakasa Kidan, and Kono Junya of Kyoto's Hyaku Yō Bako art group! I hope to see you there! matthewmeyer.net/blog/2026/09... xn--08j1a5d044nforx33c.com

Matt & Sakyu swapped APs! One featured a fun drinking-themed illustration, & the other was Aoandon. Sakyu’s "Nomu" (Drink) Kanji and Matt’s vibrant blue colors looked absolutely stunning together! (The motifs actually came from yesterday's talk session, which everyone had a blast discussing!)
