This is not the content you are looking for. Vinyl faced naughty boy elf. No... old git. We make our lives out of chaos and hope. And love. A plastic daffodil in a Grecian urn. Liable to Floods.

Torn between 'Vinyl faced naughty boy elf' & 'LED traditional dog soldier' as new profile line, then realised I read both those books in sixth-form. It has to be the former.

They are both great*, but if pushed I'd probably go green & gold from these photos. *Great is insufficient - I find them very calming to gaze at, almost hypnotic.

Don't tell me, that's where you stopped for a breather and got your phone out to make it look like you only stopped for the photo. Not saying why I think that... (puff, puff).

Ah, Travelodge, of course. We've planned many UK touring holidays around sometimes absurdly cheap one night stays if you're happy to be a bus ride/longish walk out of a town/city centre. And I'm sure the gifting will be returned in some way, so that's all good.

That sucks, hard luck. But also I'm thinking £90 for a train trip AND hotel stay in that there London... that's a bargain! Could ask hotel if mentioning their kindness on here in giving you refund (or reschedule for when you could use it) would prompt such a kindness?

😀 This has a commonality beyond individual sports and countries. I grew up in UK playing football on a street of 100 year old terraced houses in the 1970s which were mostly quiet but... CAR!

Is that not nice? It's what I'd call nice; it's not raining/snowing/hailing or so foggy/cloudy there's no blue. You have either been spoilt with your sunrises or are a connoisseur of them! Or... I'm now so lazy/fortunate that I only see sunrises 3 months out of 12, so am a sucker for even poor ones.

"This son just sat by his mother's open grave and finished reading her the book he was reading her in hospice. There you go, that's a funeral." Not a dry eye in this house.

Everyone should be as happy as he appears on their birthday - happy birthday Nick! Your posts about him and the care he receives at the Canterbury Oast Trust always cheer and inspire me. They are doing wonderful work there.

He has the hair of my maternal grandfather. Unfortunately I inherit mine from my paternal grandfather, and it's been slowly retreating from about age seven. Better than advancing though, so every cloud...

Superb. I am also seriously envious of your grandfather's hair.

Now I think about it, is that what you say in these book shops, "Hi I'm Evie King, world famous author, and I'll sign some of your stock for you. Look, that little pic on the back, that's me. Yes it is. ID? Ah, well, of course I don't use my real name..."

I'm imagining you running down the street after the Leadenhall buyer, shouting "I'm Evie King, world famous author, and I'll sign that book for you!"

What a lovely review; maybe I should buy a second also, as I'm hogging our single copy so far. My recommendation is Get Ahead of Being Dead by enjoying a life, a love, a laugh, family, friends. But... I also look forward to the third book, in your own time of course. I hope Dave gets better soon.

Just a wee bit hasty in summarising the article, which says: "It’s missing tomatoes, which wouldn’t arrive in Italy until the 1500s and wouldn’t be widely eaten in the country until the 19th century, owing to a belief that the newly introduced fruit was poisonous." You didn't use AI did you? 😀

Hum, no - older. But knowing their age makes me smile at the same time as being teary, so that's even better 🫶

For some reason that made me teary. Just old and tired I guess.

Very, very good. I don't usually write anything in any book I own, but I'll make an exception in this case, I'm sure it will be affecting.

Just in case no one else has yet said: the named five (Mike Morris, Clarence Mitchell, Alan Cook, Mark Shooter, Kira Gabbert) were councillors previously but lost their seats in the May elections. They don't need to be included this time round.

Beautiful mark, beautiful walls. And this is a whole new rabbit-hole I was previously unaware of, starting with: it was shown as B.M.10.5 in 1872 survey [maps.nls.uk/view/231281958], old money of course but 45cm? Error vs SE sinking? I must research! 😀

I think you could build the wall shown with just two bricks, one standard all over square corners (frogged or not to taste), one non-frogged brick with a curve on one side and the lark's tongue on the other opposite corner. You flip that one as required. But I may be wrong.

I like to think it deliberate and they give themselves one point for someone saying it, another if they then blush, and an extra bonus point if they put their hand over their eyes as they walk away. I'm always good for three points.

I was struggling (because my exp of RE teachers is that if you start with "this god does not exist" then they insist you prove the fact) until I realised that e.g. Terry Pratchett's god Om from Small Gods would be perfect. Would still get a low mark for taking the mickey, but why would I care?

Not this bit: "Next... Cells received a weak tap (which produced only a modest contraction response), followed by a strong tap one second later. This... was repeated every 45 seconds... After the first 10 trials of this pair of taps, the cells immediately contracted to the weak tap..."

I just finished "The Delusions" and I think if anyone else had written it, their style would have had me putting it down halfway through. But Jenni's writing is... addictive? In a good way! And I am currently reviewing my past and future life with a view to being a better person.
