Today is an appropriate day to reiterate that I fully support the population of Israel against Palestinian terrorists. This is my personal opinion which unfortunately does not seem to reflect the views of my employer.

The story of Christa Gail Pike is totally crazy - her execution was stayed, then the stay lifted, she survives two lethal injections and is taken to the hospital, where they are treating her so that she could be executed next year - unless she gets clemency, which looks unlikely.

I look every day at the Picture of the Day on Wikimedia Commons; once in a few years I share it here. The picture for 1 September is below: The ship wreck of Cabo de Santa Maria in Boa Vista, Cape Verde, by Ximonic (Simo Räsänen): commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wr...

Yaozu Tang posted on arXiv his article (with Nienke ten Haaf - this started as her master thesis, Artem Bondarenko, @SolidStChemist and me) on how current in a ferroelectric Josephson junction can switch the polarization and cause the diode-like behavior: arxiv.org/abs/2607.04398
arxiv.org
Pseudo-superconducting-diode effect in ferroelectric Josephson junctions
The superconducting diode effect (SDE), characterized by unequal critical supercurrents in opposite current directions, enables supercurrent rectification. We propose a magnetic-field-free pseudo-supe...

Ritesh Das put yesterday an article on arXiv by Ilia Moghayer, himself and me, based on the master thesis by Ilia. We show how altermagnetic order can be detected in spin transport experiments and what are the relevant signatures to look at: arxiv.org/abs/2607.00993
arxiv.org
Magnon-polaron mediated spin Seebeck effect in altermagnets
Altermagnets, distinguished by compensated antiparallel spins yet nondegenerate magnon spectra, bridge the gap between ferromagnets and antiferromagnets. Although several probes such as anisotropic tr...

Rob den Teuling put his paper on arXiv today (with Ping Tang, Gerrit Bauer, and myself). He shows how soft magnon modes are manifested as peaks in the spin Seebeck effect, using mono- and bilayer of CrSBr as an example: arxiv.org/abs/2605.18478
arxiv.org
Spin-caloritronic signatures of soft magnons in bilayer CrSBr
Spin transport in magnetic insulators is often treated by assuming that magnons carry a fixed spin angular momentum of $\hbar$, which does not hold in general, however. Here we calculate the magnon sp...
