I like Zep when they lighten up. Replace No Quarter with Houses of the Holy and leave the Crunge.

The Talmud has been a long-standing target of anti-Semites. Prople who attack Israel often assume any anti-Jewish claim can be adapted into an anti-Israel claim: Why do Israelis mistreat Pals? The Talmud tells them to. Jews were "kicked out if 109 countries" but the Pals took them in, etc.

E7, A7, B7 is classic blues in E. Major or Seventh chords on the flatted 3d, 6th, and 7th go with the e minor scale.

The White Album is my favorite. Credit in Heaven by The Suburbs doesn't get mentioned enough. English Settlement by XTC was released in a double-album version. Blonde on Blonde is one of the greatest double albums.

Siberian Khatru was the follow-up to Roundabout although the words were pretty random. Is that why Briford quit?

In the era of those records and the ones on Prestige, he had the most beautiful tone in Jazz.

Any Beatles song they named a movie after is great. MMT is good, not great, but that was a TV special.

Yellow Submarine is great. Their best use of sound-effects in a song. Catchy campfire-ish melody. Ringo's bass drum part. It's a high point on Revolver.

When Sinwar was in prison, was "kidnapped" a good description of his situation? If your answer is yes, we can't have a conversation. Have a good weekend.

Most of the 2nd Great Quintet are in place on some tracks. Fine tenor player George Coleman was about to be replaced by visionary composer Wayne Shorter on tenor, leading to albums filled with unique original compositions, and not just from Shorter.

His voice sounds great. Rainy Day Women has that Salvation Army Band sound concocted for that track. Stuck Inside of Mobile has one of his best chord progressions. Sad Eyed Lady is an epic track. Most Likely You'll Go Your Way became a concert staple

I tend to think of BOB as his best album because it has the best performances by back-up musicians in his classic period and because the song-writing is so varied, especially over four sides. Blood on the Tracks is very emotionally stark and poetic, but not so distinguished musically.

I said it's "implied" and you responded "nope." What were you taking "substantial" to mean? The Jewish Sabbath starts soon, and I'm going to be offline for 24 hours.

I think you are fishing for gotcha points. My understanding of Lemkin's thinking doesn't call for a precise number.
100
Yitzchak Goodman @yitzgood.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
When you wrote "nope," what did you think the word "substantial" meant?
100
Yitzchak Goodman @yitzgood.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
See my answer to your earlier post.
100
Yitzchak Goodman @yitzgood.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
Two thirds were. Most of 10 million. Lemkin coined the word in the book Axis Rule in Occupied Europe.

Yitzchak Goodman @yitzgood.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
Not a part that makes a logical alternative to "in whole" in a definition occasioned by the Holocaust.
100
Yitzchak Goodman @yitzgood.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
It isn't in there to make any "part" meet the definition. A substantial part is implied.
100
Yitzchak Goodman @yitzgood.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
When you wrote "So it does meet the definition of genocide as it is currently understood, good, yes, thanks" you were putting words in my mouth, not stating anything that is a logical conclusion from what I wrote.
100
Yitzchak Goodman @yitzgood.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
The fairly widespread opinion that the broadly agreed-upon events in Gaza don't meet the definition of a Genocide is nothing like an actual Holocaust-denier argument. For instance, a list of specific names in a non-Red Cross archive is passed off as Red Cross documentation that only 261,000 died.
100
Yitzchak Goodman @yitzgood.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
People seem to want to have it both ways in this thread. Genocide doesn't have to be what the Nazis did but I'm doing the equivalent of saying blah blah blah about the Holocaust.
100
Yitzchak Goodman @yitzgood.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
"In part" is in the definition because the classic examples of genocide didn't involve killing off every last member of the genocided groups, not because the concept of genocide doesn't have anything to do with killing off a genos.

You can argue by analogy without formally committing false quotation, even as a rancid online stylistic device.
200
Yitzchak Goodman @yitzgood.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
An analogy should be introduced with something like "That's like saying," but people have been making up sentences, putting them in quotation marks, and writing my name afterwards in some cases. Yeah, there's sort-of an anology buried under all the layers of dishonesty.

Yitzchak Goodman @yitzgood.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
The Nazis were damn sure trying to kill every Jew they could. That is obviously not like the Gaza war. You're not even smart enough to make the argument that genocides don't have to be like what the Nazis did. Israel-bashers have been talking about "Zio-Nazis" for years.
