Gf hadn’t seen Get Out or Nope, so we watched both tonight while I worked on commissions. I really, really love Jordan Peele’s work, yall. REALLY. I’ve seen both films multiple times before, but I still had a hard time concentrating on my work, because the films are really so compelling.

The movie poster for Jordan Peele’s Nope, featuring Keke Palmer, Daniel Kaluuya, and Steven Yuen all looking up into a night sky.

“I’m still gonna rise from the ashes…” This Is The End - TaeMin #taemin

A painterly illustration of TaeMin’s hands raised in supplication, wrists bound with scar tissue. Paint splatters evoke water, and a round wash of paint floating above the hands in the color of dark blood.

Remember when he wore wigs and we were like “what if he grew his hair out like that”and then HE DID 😭😭 and he kept it that way for sooo long. I know many of us are mourning the loss of that glorious mane. So I drop these paintings to memorialize #wangyibo ‘s hair

“Bubbling underneath, I can feel it Take a drink, the old me’s not in the building…” SKIN - TaeMin #taemin

A painterly illustration of TaeMin. There are two TaeMin’s, one closeup, his hand clutching his face, a rough mask of white obscuring part of his forehead, cheek, and chin. The other TaeMin is in the bottom left corner, white fluffy coat on his right shoulder, but slipping off his left to reveal his chest. Light is falling on him from above, his head thrown back.

My sweet spouse made this and asked me to share it. It feels weird to put it out there, knowing everyone is struggling as much as we are, but maybe this is what the universe has decided is the way to make it happen 🤷🏻 anyway gofund.me/1ae8a94ee

Watching the fancams for Liminal, I’m vacillating between the high of knowing he’s out there, free, making the art he wants to make in front of people who are showering him with love, and intense grief that I will be missing this tour. #taemin

“Is this the body you once loved? Don’t feel at home in my own skin. Which of my thoughts are still my own? Tell me, when will this nightmare end?” #TAEMIN #태민 #PHASE1_SoftViolence

A painterly illustration of TaeMin on a white background with paint splatters. He’s visible, head and shoulders, looking right at the viewer with tears in his eyes, platinum hair falling softly on either side of his face. A streaky handprint is swiped across the canvas, landing on his mouth. Lyrics in the post are from his song Frankenstein, found on his new album, Soft Violence.

Why can’t I make art for a living again? I did it for two decades and it was difficult/long hours, but it was just me in my studio vibing. I hate working amongst the people. I’m not built for it. I don’t have the right neurotype. I just wanna draw queer shit and hide. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK

Don’t wanna be good good good good good…. Gimme some more more more more more… 👄💅🏼 He’s ambidextrous #taemin

A painterly illustration of TaeMin, leaning back against a spattered colorful background, his knees drawn up , but falling open, his left hand between his legs, fingers spread to show off his manicure. TaeMin has long red fingernails, except for the index and middle finger, which remain short. His right elbow is propped on his thigh, the index finger of his right hand between his glossy parted lips. Fringe falls into his purple eyes, a swipe of paint creating a halo around his head. Update: My 70yo Christian fundamentalist mother texted to tell me she really identifies with TaeMin’s Parasite. THIS from the woman who completely swore off The Rose because “they use the f-word.” Yall. YALL. I wish I could convey how much this means to me. Bless you, lord and savior, Lee TaeMin 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

My gf made me a surprise sensory kit for TaeMin’s comeback. She remembered that I got so dysregulated and crashed out over Eternal, and so put this together to help me stay a little more balanced for Soft Violence. Each item has a different sensory experience. 🐜🐜🐜

An array of objects labeled with sharpie to describe their sensory experience: stickers and a notebook labeled with Sticky, different kinds of candy labeled with Gummy, Squishy, Crunchy, Puffy, pompom balls labeled Soft, black sand and sequins labeled, Gritty and Abrasive, a bottle of bubbles labeled Airy, a feather labeled Feathery, pipe cleaners labeled Fuzzy and Flexible, soap labeled Slippery, a container of slime labeled Slimy, a large pushpin labeled Sharp, polished rocks labeled Smooth and Hard, a rubber band labeled Stretchy, scented markers labeled Smelly, a plastic egg labeled Hollow, a candle labeled Hot, a peel mask labeled Gooey, and finally, not sensory as much as visually related, a bag of sugar cubes with ants drawn, and a cute anatomical heart model.

A ziploc of sugar cubes with black ants drawn on the plastic.

My current ranking of TaeMin’s Soft Violence after listening to it for a week (expanded in alt text) This album is a brilliant and strange genre mashup. I found it to be completely unexpected and an absolute delight to listen to. #taemin

1. Parasite — this is so fucking ragey. I love it so gd much. And the way he says,
“You’re a FUCKING parasite…” After seeing this song debut at Coachella,
I was worried he’d take out the F For the album and this line would just be a fever dream of a memory. But no, he left it in. Just for me.
2. This Is The End — I adore this song so much. It captures so much of his journey and it’s so… so eerie and perfect. The imagery! Especially combined with the video. “Take me off the hinges, I’m about to make noise,” is a GREAT lyric.
3. Frankenstein — This song is so incredibly sad. The saddest song he’s done in a while. I was mesmerized when he did it for Coachella (I love whenever he sits at the piano), and we only got a tidbit. His voice soars in this… and it’s so heartbroken at the same time. Oof.
4. Gooey — I didn’t get it the first time I heard it. WTF IS THIS?? The performance video made me get it. The choreo filled in the gaps for me (his dance fluency is off the charts, and Gooey goes HARD) and I love it now. The fucking audacity of this song.
5. SKIN — This song is very NIN for me. “Peel it off now….” I’m certain TaeMin is a Trent Reznor fan and this song clinched it.
6. 1004 — “Angel in my rearview, I was near you once befooooooore” 😭😭😭 This song made me cry at Coachella and it was on first listen. Now I know what the lyrics are saying and no one does yearning like him.
7. Let Me Be The One - If someone told me five years ago that TaeMin would come out with New Jack Swing, I’d be skeptical. But omg, at Coachella?? He was so happy, and flirty, and the choreo was delightful.
8. Float — This song is really so sad, especially when you know what story the music video tells. And I love me a sad bop.
9. Sober — This is one of the ultimate disordered attachment anthems. Basically this entire album is about toxic love and I am HERE for it.
10. Easy Loving You - TaeMin said this was a contender for TT, but it would have had a HORROR concept. Which makes me love it more.

TaeMin’s Soft Violence… I painted this piece over 20 years ago. It’s oil on canvas, five feet tall. I’ve spent years coming to terms with the fact that my life has been shaped by violence. This cb is so incredibly meaningful. TaeMin’s art speaks so deeply to me. #taemin

A dark oil painting of two arms reaching upward, hands in a pose of supplication. The limited palette in grey, black and red, and drips of red sliding down the wrists evoke blood.
