HNG @yidon.bsky.social · 29/09/2026These days, I'm not so sure if a lot of research outputs claim to generate impact - when in fact I think they are more so optimized to generate visibility (by metrics, on social media, etc.) 001
HNG @yidon.bsky.social · 17/09/2026LLMs are not an additive force, but a multiplicative one. They don't fix mistake or improve incompetence, they amplify them. Adding 10 to -10 would at least yield a 0, but multiplying 10 by -10 would yield a -100. But the bigger problem is that the victims are unconscious of this phenomenon. 000
HNG @yidon.bsky.social · 23/08/2026CHI 2027 requires authors to provide DBLP author page. But due to inaccuracy of auto-indexing, DBLP has a lot of mismatched publications. HNG @yidon.bsky.social · 18/06/2026I like how some tell me that doing a PhD isn't a real job, as if "real jobs" are necessarily better. But then I'm reminded that Bill Watterson once said "A REAL job is a job you hate." And I love doing what I do, so may it's not a real job after all. 000

HNG @yidon.bsky.social · 24/05/2026Purely speculative, but I'm guessing that there must be a non-insignificant overlap between people who are dependent on LLMs for decision-making vs people who find delayed variable reward appealing ("I wonder what it's gonna generate"). I.e., LLMs are microtransaction systems in a trench coat...? 010
