Like, the Red Sox won their four championships when Bill James worked there and they have not been the same team since. But then, James started to mix it up with the true crime crowd, wrote a couple of books on the subject. And now, he just lives his life as a baseball nerd online. Like, amazing.

Bill James is one of the most interesting people in history. The reason baseball is what it is now, is largely because of him and his stats approach to the game. Nate Silver, who has fallen from grace in a way I've never seen before, was influenced by James and his work in baseball.

She also experimented a little with paranormal themes as well, there's one ghost story in here, a fae story, and one supernatural story that is pretty intriguing. If short story collections are like albums, this one is well worth your time.

Finished this today. Savored it more than I intended to, which is why it took me a month to read a 195 page book, but it was so good. Jackson understood The Cold War era better than most people did. She captured small town paranoia better than anyone, and you get a lot of it in these stories.

The book, Dark Tales by Shirley Jackson.
