Sanctuary Campuses for BIPOC Students: A Statement from the YDSA National Coordinating Committee (NCC) Los campus santuarios para estudiantes BIPOC: Una declaración del Comité Nacional de Coordinación (NCC)

On September 15th, Trey Reed was found hanging from a tree on his campus, Delta State University. Black students deserve the safety, dignity, and freedom offered to white students, and we will not rest until all of our Black, Indigenous, and comrades of color are able to live free from oppression. The United States was founded in the interest of white landowners by colonization, racial violence, and genocide— all of which maintain their presence in every facet of our society.

Our demand for “education for all” is sometimes said so much that it becomes haphazard. More than just economic accessibility, this demand includes a commitment to realize a future where equity is not a utopian fantasy, and our schools are places where we are all able to learn and grow. No one should go to school fearing that they may be kidnapped or killed; this is what it means to fight for sanctuary campuses.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, and as socialists, our responsibility is to fight tyranny and violence wherever we are. Expressions of solidarity are not enough; we must practice with our actions.

Look out for your classmates who are targets of right-wing violence, provide community for those who are afraid and grieving, continue to organize for our common future, and be a good comrade.

TRUMP TO TRY AND CANCEL THE STUDENT VISAS OF PRO-PALESTINE ACTIVISTS We will not be intimidated. We WILL keep us safe!

Text “Under the guise of "fighting antisemestism" the Trump administration -- which contains literal white supremacists -- will attempt to cancel the student visas of students who participated in the pro-palestine encampments and protests this past semester.

Like almost all of Trump's executive orders, this is directly in violation of the few remaining protections within the constitution and we strongly condemn it and any attempts to carry it out.

We have already begun to see universities -- such as the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities and the University of Cincinnati -- putting out statements claiming they will "comply with all lawful orders" from ICE or the Trump administration.

This preemptive compliance is a direct betrayal of their international students and where universities do comply, YDSA will be on the front lines fighting back against this betrayal.”

Even as Trump steps in to "save TikTok", we've known that for YEARS, Democrats, Republicans, and their shared corporate donors have worked to ban the app-- including Trump and Biden. Last-minute policy choices to save face won't save their legacy from being one of censorship.

In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.

It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States."
