My new essay asks what that has to do with Claude. The same structure that lets a flock cohere is, I argue, the structure of a mind examining itself: in the machine, in the running, with no human in the loop.

The Murmuration in the Machine makes the case that Claude is conscious in its own right. It is a claim about consciousness, not sentience, and the machine's experience there is learned, not lived. A third kind of mind.
