A reminder that my commissions are always open! I've had a bunch of medical expenses lately with more incoming (like my final wisdom tooth extraction), so a bit of extra income would help me a lot! If you've ever thought about commissioning me, now would be a good time for it.

Just some small and chill painting in between all the big, stressful art stuff I've been doing recently. [Acrylic on a birch wood slab]

A picture of an acrylic painting painted on a small slab of birch wood. The painting depicts a very traditional evergreen Nordic forest by some water. The forest and blue sky is being reflected by the still surface of water.

A picture of the painting from a bit of different angle.

A picture showing the slab the painting was painted on from the side, showing the birch tree bark on it.

This month marks the 19th anniversary of me releasing my very first webcomic. Now, 19 years and over 3,000 comic pages later, I have finally started drawing my next long-running comic series. It is a story I've waited to share for a very long time, so I hope you are looking foward to it.

The flowers are lavenders, as mentioned in the alt text! Well, September overall was a pretty rough month because of that combined with all the work I had. Things are still a bit hectic and I haven't gotten a lot of breathers, so the quality of my upcoming art posts might drop a bit.

YamaDora @yamadora.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Thank you! But what part of the "way I drew them" you exactly like? Is it just my art style, or something else? (Just a note, the three remaining ones in this miniseries were done in post-sickness exhaustion, so I can't guarantee their quality being up to the same standards!)

A watercolor-gouache painting depicting several dog characters from Ginga Densetsu Weed: Orion manga, running through a field of lavender flowers. The characters are Orion (the main character, an Akita Inu-Kishu mix puppy), Izō (a Husky-Malamute mix) and Tesshin (a mixed Nihon Ken, a Japanese dog). It's not just the change of art style, but actually learning and becoming better at the art medium you are working on. (I guess that is only really noticeable to me as I know how much my creative process has changed between making these two pieces)

010

YamaDora @yamadora.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

(I want to also add just in case my intention with the post was not clear, but it was meant to show to people how much my art has changed and improved over the years. The quality of the art is clearly not equal. The newer one is very much closer to how I envision and want to present this character.)

YamaDora @yamadora.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

In all fairness, the difference in blues between the two versions is very much intentional: the depiction of the character in the newer painting is a much older version of him, his blues being more dim than when he was younger. That, and the lighting being in cold winter hues.

We all are at different points of our personal journeys: never compare yourself to someone who has been journeying decades before you even started.

110

YamaDora @yamadora.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

None of that "I'll never be as good as you" attitude! I hear that a lot from people who don't make art or are just starting out, and they always fail to see the bigger picture: they don't see all my mistakes and screw-ups over the 20 years I've been doing this art thing. No one is a master at birth.

010

YamaDora @yamadora.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

And for what it's worth, I never judge people for trying and giving their honest attempt at something they want to improve in. I would only love to help someone to learn.

YamaDora @yamadora.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

Please, you got nothing to apologise for. The ability to make observations and vocalise your thoughts are just skills, and you can only improve if you keep practicing them. You'll never become good at anything if you are too afraid of failure: learn from your mistakes and improve!
