I got into a pinhole camera sales group after reading about #maskpark, a voyeurism ring that involves at least 100k Chinese users on Telegram. It has compared to South Korea’s Nth Room. Here are demos of pinhole cameras on a shoe, a fan, a car key and the side of a phone:

Feel absolutely powerless when China’s Nth room is happening but no action is observed from regulators. To join #maskpark on Telegram, one must submit video/photo of women around them — witnesses have seen content of these men’s girlfriends, wifes, mother in laws and daughters. 1/2

By comparing their envisioned future at graduation versus the reality, the comedy skit shows how Chinese graduates are reacting to the tough job market with humor and exaggeration (similar to ‘lie flat’). But there is also a certain amount of truth in it. Read more: bit.ly/3GQZ3IW 2/2

The domestic box offices of Ne Zha 2 (~10B RMB) VS Captain America: Brave New World (~100M RMB) is a great example that shows American titles are becoming the collateral damage and even a laughing stock. It only seems that what was done behind close doors can now happen in broad daylight.

In the meantime, domestic production companies and directors have been encouraged to do more patriotic titles or content that are in line with Xi Jinping's goal of cultural confidence, this encompasses content related to the history of CPC, CPC winning civil wars, traditional folk stories, etc.

The restrictions of American film titles is not a new measure, the numbers in Chinese cinema has been diminishing during Trump's first term as bilateral relations worsened, and so is America's soft power.
