Yale and Slavery Teachers Institute: So far, YSTI participants have heard from experts, visited sites, and read about Indigenous pedagogy. With two days remaining in the Institute, participants now move to working on their collaborative projects.

Last week, teachers participating in the Yale and Slavery Teachers Institute had first-hand accounts of Indigenous Pedagogy. They visited tribal nations, museums, and farms, learning from Indigenous leaders. This week, the teachers move to applying the information.

Yale and Slavery Teachers Institute Spotlight: Today, we focus on the Narragansett Tribal Nation. YSTI participants will visit the Narragansett Church as they consider monumental narratives, settler colonialism, and the ways that lived experiences can inform our practices in the classroom.

Today, YSTI participants visit the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation. One of the earliest tribal reservations in the country, the Eastern Pequot Reservation was established in 1683, and the tribe has occupied the land since 1670.

Today marks the first full day of the YSTI, and it is one focused on grounding and reflection. We start with a discussion of Tribal Nations of Quinnehtukqut. In the afternoon, Sandy Grande provides the keynote address: “Unsettling Knowledge: What Does It Mean to Learn?”
