Two sides of the same coin. It sucks that my own job is also under threat, if not today then certainly tomorrow, but on a grand scale - and like with other now extinct occupations before - it is a net win for everyone else.

A lot to unpack here, but among less obvious facts shining through this one is that Germany's workforce is really old (the oldest in the already old Europe, a quarter of employed Germans are over 55):

Of more recent examples, in the 1999s and 2000s all then legal Russian communist opposition newspapers ("Soviet Russia" and the like) were extremely antisemitic. And the 1993 coup attempt was done by communists and these guys:

Two small paintings, similar photorealistic style, similar "lens effect", similar "everyday" moment, but only one of them works and another is just trying too hard. Composition matters!

Saw a large poster advertising a "remigration march" in Kent, and guess what, it is also NIMBYism. I think the whole YIMBY fash faction is just three "former young Tories" on X.

Saw a good observation elsewhere: the radical left were supporting Maduro's regime and the radical right were calling for its dismantling, but in the end the actual US far right and the Venezuelan far left conspired against the old leadership and have been working together happily afterwards.

People are 100% free to make any decision here, and this specific choice is not too common to have an impact, but every time I see an older climate doomer who could otherwise have kids but decided against it for that reason, it is the same feeling as what you feel when watching the The Mist final.

Honestly cannot be bothered to respond to each and every one of your endless posts. Be concise or put up. Back to your sources. Is *this* the "military shit" you are repeatedly referring to?

Despite all this rage and nonsense The Express is comically easy to buy with the good old trick "moar money for OAPs". This is what their website looks like now:

This was written in 2008, and the note that Silicon Valley wants power before everything else now feels fully prophetic: www.paulgraham.com/cities.html
When you ask what message a city sends, you sometimes get surprising answers. As much as they respect brains in Silicon Valley, the message the Valley sends is: you should be more powerful.

That's not quite the same message New York sends. Power matters in New York too of course, but New York is pretty impressed by a billion dollars even if you merely inherited it. In Silicon Valley no one would care except a few real estate agents. What matters in Silicon Valley is how much effect you have on the world. The reason people there care about Larry and Sergey is not their wealth but the fact that they control Google, which affects practically everyone.

TIL: Small Boat Watch, an app from Reform UK is in the top 20 on Google Play, above the NHS app. It offers "daily alerts on small boat crossings".
