as someone that only casually knows about Chess, learning about chess stuff because of Solomon in Deadlock has been fun, even moreso because it's summoning people really passionate about Chess to argue about the board state Solomon has (which is apparently from The Immortal Game)

Okay, so DQ7 has double tricked me. Deathpal taught me that sometimes there isn't a gimmick, you just fight I thought dang, this robot boss is tough, but there are no gimmicks. And then I found out you can beat the NPC robots, "Ohhh, there is a trick" There was no trick. Boss still killed me.

I don't know if it's because the Hargon brainrot has seeped deep into my subconscious but I've always found Malroth's design to be visceral? Like a very primal, instinctual kind of power and evil that is very compelling I think it's a design that maybe tricks at first glance, hiding its true depth

It really is the perfect storm. Dragon Quest IV features a merchant who travels to find treasures and sell them (and is a fan favorite character at that!) and designer Seiichiro Nagahata who was fancying some Rogue (The 1980 computer game and first half of the word Roguelike)

As an unc that loves Ocarina of Time, I think the new game looks pretty good in some places and really bad in quite a few and personally almost entirely due to egregious post processing (that you could most likely disable if anyone besides Nintendo made this game)

It's probably just because I've been playing so much Golden Sun but I was surprised by how many puzzles in DQ7 have already involved pushing stuff around and carrying it It immediately feels quite different compared to DQ6 in that regard, probably to take advantage of being a 3D game

The GBA had such a small resolution they really were working miracles making things legible, it gives GBA games such an interesting style

PS1 emulation is really refined so it's like baseline in a lot of emulation handhelds DQ7 actually has big text boxes so even on a small screen it reads pretty well, it's very quaint at this size and picking up and playing is definitely the best way to tackle this long game
