Before the ISAT zine, @gaberahamlincoln.bsky.social and I made an Anthology of the Killer Zine! Also for the purpose of expressing our thoughts and recommending it to people! You can find a printable version on my ko-fi to fold your own copy! #AnthologyOfTheKiller #aotk #art

a 2 page spread featuring an illustration of Gabe and my "killersonas" in the back alley of the game with the two bears and the trash cans. Gabe is holding out a poster that has BB's face and reads "Have you played Anthology of the Killer? By Grace & Gabe"

A text box next to them reads: Where to Find - Anthology of the Killer was made by thecatamites with music by Tommy Tone and additional art by A. Degen. It can be bought on itch.io or Steam for only a few dollars!

This zine was co-written by Grace and Gabe
Art by Grace
Grace - @gracekraft.bsky.social
Gabe - @gaberahamlincoln.bsky.social

Page 1 - Grace and Gabe's Killersonas stand next to the fountain in the lobby of the main building at the start of the game. They each hold a martini glass with Grace also holding a knife in the other wing.

Grace: We found this game

Gabe: I found this ga-

Grace WE found this game

Gabe: Sure! Anthology of the Killer is a surreal comedy horror walkaround game set in a world where murder is mainstream culture. Through it, you play as zine-writing college girl BB, as she tries to survive a modern world while its institutions collapse and its killers run at her with knives

Page 2 - Grace and Gabes heads are at the top of the page while below them are a column of images on the left with lines drawn to a different column of images on the right.

Grace: If you like these

Gabe: You may enjoy Anthology of the Killer because...

An image of Courage labeled "Courage the Cowardly Dog" has a line drawn to an image of Tammy that reads "Cartoon horror comedy starring a scared by quippy protagonist

A drawing of Mae labeled "Night in the Woods" has a line drawn to an image of Mappy that reads "Surviving conservative cultists in dystopian capitalism"

A drawing of Maromi labeled "Paranoia Agent" has a line drawn to a drawing of fake "BB" holding two knives that reads "Symbols and ideas turning into merderers and monsters

A drawing of a spiral labeled "Uzumaki" has a line drawn to a drawing of The Killer that reads "Deeper horror beneath the horror"

Pages 3 & 4: Gabe talks at length his thoughts on Anthology of the Killer while holding his martini glass, Grace next to him points at him with a knife.

Gabe: Ever since playing it I couldn’t get it out of my head. The world is a mess, and we’re struggling to survive every day. I feel like AotK really sees that struggle, and gives a face to the new monsters we’re struggling against.

It puts a rubber mask on things like neo-moralism and consumer data, and lets you stare them in the eye and laugh in their faces. I think it’s a story that a lot of us could use at this point in history.

Of course it helps that Anthology of the Killer is a really fun and idiosyncratic piece of media!

It looks like a cartoon made in mspaint, and draws from political philosophy, the dark history of the Beach Boys, old weird bird paintings and Scrooge McDuck comics.

The resulting combination is something electrifying that reminds me of discovering Yume Nikki or playing Undertale when it first released.

And it makes me want to create! The game is art for art’s sake, and it wears its seams with pride.

The Anthology’s bonus tunnels show off a museum of the game’s own creation. From showcasing the stock assets used to the early materials, iterations and inspirations that went into it. It’s like it’s encouraging you to make something, like how BB writes her zines.

As a scientist logicboi who’s loved art but always been intimidated by the idea of making it, nothing has been more successful at driving me to try it than this game.

Anthology of the Killer is the kind of game that’s rewired my brain chemistry, and I want to share that experience with the world! I hope you’ll consider giving it a chance.

Grace: What they said

Pages 5 & 6: Gabe and Grace stand in front of a chalkboard with drawings and writings from each of them.

Gabe's side reads:
• Weird esoteric references
• Punk aesthetic
• Game really hates the police
• Unique writing voice
• Cathartic takedown of academia (I am still stuck in academia ;_;)
• Sad goth musician tries to murder you in a music video about murdering you
There is a drawing of Doctor Zoo and a drawing of the Weepster holding a knife and saying "I blame society"

Grace's side of the boards has a drawing of Lamassu with text under it reading "Commentary on the cultish moralization of cartoons and art"

A drawing of BB doing the Lisa Simpson Stare with text on her reading "Painfully accurate and relatable depiction of the experiences of a woman trying to survive while navigating modern day society"

A drawing of BB and Clarice making out with text under them reading "Clarice + BB make zines, maybe they should kiss about it"

A drawing of a drinky bird with text under it reading "Drinky Birds!"

I wake up one night to a horrible scream outside my window. It sounds like the Killer is at it again.

The lights are on and I hear noises from inside - this late? Well, I guess gyms, sometimes open all night as well. So really there's nothing at all unusual about it. Yes. Yes, I agree.

Inside it's quite spruce and there's a vague chemical smell. Nameless music fills the air along with a sound of distant splashing. I feel more at home here than I've ever felt anywhere, I think.

Traps set by would-be murderers used to be believable. The last time I was added to a "Group Chat," I wound up bound to a coffee table wrapped in plastic. I'm not falling for that again!
