Based on the recent situation, in particular how it is targeting artists even for art that was made prior to gen ai even existing, I've made the decision to archive all my posts on meta platforms.
Honestly, I had left a few years ago due to the ai as well as a multitude of other issues (primarily ethical issues) that meta had & still continue to has. However I decided to leave my posts up primarily as a internet footprint - but with this, it just isn't worth the risks anymore. There is no value in leaving the posts public only to potentially get the ai label & then having to contend with the entire headache that fiasco would inevitably bring.
Why not just delete your account and your data? That's easier!
This is totally correct! It would be easier, but it doesn't really solve anything. Meta already has my data, they trained on everything prior to even announcing their ai - there's always the solution of requesting data deletion, but due to the data privacy laws in my state I'm not as protected. Companies aren't required to delete my data, instead they can do so if they want to in "good faith", meta made it clear with their EU ai data training issue that they would not remove data unless they were legally required to, even then it may be dodgy on if they do it.
I've seen enough dramas regarding ai call outs to know how the situation normally goes & how many people use a lack of internet footprint as a gotcha - removing an account, in particular any posts time-stamped, could actually hurt artists further than it would help. Plus, lets not open the can of worms that is "fake accounts" which often target artists regardless of size; contrary to popular belief but you don't need a big enough audience to have a scam account try to pose as you - you simply just need a consistent enough audience.
