Descent into Avernus is actually bad for most Commander games because it speeds up the game clock too much and removes player agency. Players have to focus on too many variables and it takes away from the overall experience of "doing the thing." "Then Bob played Descent" is not a memorable story.

extrapolate that, and you see why modern precon Commanders have taken over the top 100 on EDHRec. its so expensive to build up from scratch if you don't already own most of the cards. not because of just singles prices, but because of compounding postage and sourcing.
