reblogging for the last day of #hsr #phaideiweek !

#phaideiweek2026 day 6: sports aka a #HonkaiStarRail yuri on ice au ft - reigning champion #mydei freshly retired from the kremnos national team - #phainon who is Going Thru It™ after fumbling the previous competition season - #phaidei rediscovering their passion for skating together 🔗⬇️

Screenshot of ao3 listing for "out of the melted frost and rime" by TheLastKnownSurvivor. Rating is Teen, no archive warnings apply. Characters are Phainon, Mydei, Castorice, Aglaea, Tribbie, Anaxa. Tags include skating AU, modern AU, Angst, Eventual Happy Ending, Banter, Fluff, Getting Together, POV Phainon, Past Character Death, Cyrene haunts the narrative, Trauma, Anxiety

Summary text:

I'm so, so sorry, Cyrene, he thinks to himself. It's all my fault. I'm sorry I couldn't fulfill your wish.

Ten years ago Aedes Elysiae burned to the ground in a terrible accident. That day Phainon lost his home, his family, his best friend and skating partner, and their chance to compete in the Galactic Grand Prix Finale. With little else left, Phainon poured everything into clawing his way back to that same competition a decade later.

Unfortunately, leaving the tragedy behind isn't as easy as it seems, and Phainon suffers a crushing defeat as the weight of it drags him down. Phainon doesn't want the story to end there, but he finds himself running out of options and time as he bombs yet another competition and rumors begin to swirl about his imminent retirement.

Enter Mydei, the skating prodigy and recently-retired reigning champion from Castrum Kremnos, and his unexpected offer to coach Phainon. Phainon accepts—because who the hell would turn Mydei down—even as he worries if he's worth his new coach's time and effort. The question is, can Phainon learn to skate for himself instead of his late best friend, and maybe find love along the way?

A Yuri on Ice AU. Written for Phaidei Week Day 6 Sports

Screenshot from Honkai Star Rail version 3.1, in which Mydei has just gotten stabbed by Phainon in the trial of Strife. There is no text in the image that captions the dialogue, but it is the moment that Mydei says "Found you".
