My work season picked up real quick all at once. I make promotional graphics for some clients, race car stuff mainly. It's insane to me that I actually survive on this. Good to remind myself of that while I'm dreading that I can't play/make games all day for a while lol.

Beat Final Fantasy 7 rebirth tonite, and had a realization. A sudden core memory unlocked. The ending of Final Fantasy games is the reason I dread the endings of games. What if they're gonna trap me in a 4 hour long boss fight with team wipe mechanics? Not fond of that design.

just a heap of errors out of nowhere, and because my project is weird and idk what I'm doing well enough. I don't feel like it's totally the app's fault. I'd really like to blame the app tho because it makes me feel better. On the upside, I got a cool waterfall now.

I reimported a large blend file, and godot decided to import duplicates in almost every other blend file I have in other scenes. Luckily not the largest scene, but many of my props are just broken right now and idk why it even happened. I love this engine, but I'd strangle it rn if I could.

~ end of year promo ~ Here it is, in all it's glory. We have some sounds, we have some doors. Basically done with this project already. Maybe 3, 4 years tops at this rate. We're cruisin. (don't mind the loop on the bonfire, it needs some work lol) Dark Souls 2, but it's really King's Field 5.

Seems like there'll be a co-op summon, so if you have 2, you just queue for a third. That's seems the most likely reason for it. Solo is seperate entirely, and balanced for it. While co-op is balanced for 3. Also possible that they just mean it'll be harder to co-op without a 3rd, but you can.

Ahhh I see, yea I'm not sure on that tbh. It does sound like it's not impossible to play solo, but i can only imagine there's tons of enemies and bosses made to overwhelm even a full squad.

I'm not that stoked about the weird multi-verse fanservice. Rogue-likes are kind of exhausting as well. Why wouldn't you be able to play it tho? It'll be on all major platforms won't it? Just the playtest in Feb is console exclusive.

Moving between multiple 3D viewports is such a hassle. Blender doesn't have basic wasd flight, godot doesn't handle perspective zoom and panning well, and Smithbox doesn't do any panning/zoom with mmb. I think I'm pretty good at going back and forth, but I trip up so often.

I had so much fun porting Dark Souls 2 assets into godot for this mod! I'm now considering what it would take to port the rest bit by bit. And then maybe add a first person controller with tank controls, and do a kings field//dark souls 2 hybrid... I dream too big for my own sanity

I hate that spotify made me a "Moody Mix", but even more than that I hate how often I listen to it. I'm not moody, I just like melancholy instrumentals when I'm working, and I'm always working. Don't act like you get me spotify! Nobody really gets me... *hairflip*

I'm very self conscious of my use of ellipsis after hearing Marcus from Last Podcast on the Left say it was a pet peeve years ago. I also grew up reading comics, I never considered if that's the root of it... I still think it's a viable way to end a sentence lost in thought.

I personally love the simplicity of gdscript, but a lot of folks build in C# and use external compilers to build their code in godot as well, and it's nice you can do either. It doesn't have to be casual only. It's as viable as unity in 2024, and getting better with every release, imo.

Venetica has one of the coolest corpse inventories I've ever seen! This game lives and breaths late 00s rpg. It's kinda like if Gothic had a badass female protagonist. I think this UI design is phenomenal, but how do we feel about it?? #gamedev #rpgdev

I think I'd like to spend some more time on lore soon. Programming is wearing out my brain. I have the core and lots of pieces, but my gods need more attention. Poor things don't even have names yet! I will give them love, and in return they'll terrorize my world for me! And have beautiful babies.

That's very true, I go through spurts of motivation, but I'm extremely motivated now and kinda worried I'm putting too much on my plate lol It's probably healthy to remember a project can sit sometimes to make room for others. Just do whatcha can, when you can, I suppose.

Do other creatives get bogged down with too many projects? I have my main game dev project, a game jam that's criminally behind schedule, and some old band mates want to jam again so now I'm doing that, on top of streaming and working. I'm feeling short on time, but I'm desperate to make things!

That is super cool! Does it load and save chunks the moment they're rendered? Maybe it could work a few chunks away from the player so they're being rendered separately? Idk if that would solve the hitching

I had a realization that I'm less and less afraid to break things, the more comfortable I get in godot. And it made me think how I felt working on cars when I was younger til now. I could confidently fumble my way through a repair on almost any car. I think it applies to anything in life really.

I don't really care who knows it, but I think the new Dragon Age is really fun. The narrative pacing is solid. There's no tedious EA grind afaik, and the new party combat system is really solid. It's more of an RPG-lite, but that's Dragon Age. Just try it some day and see for yourself.
