It feels like all this DAV crap was designed by bureaucrats-turned-Lotus-Notes-engineers and, boy, it's a mess. I'm not saying that the specifications and protocols are bad, but that they are *too powerful* for the vast majority of use cases.

RFC 6350 is a perfect example of an insanely over-engineered specification that allows for each and every eventuality and, through that, makes reasonable implementations impossible. go-vcard is broken in so many different ways that it's not even funny anymore more, but it isn't the author's fault.

sysdeck is a command center for Linux and the BSDs. It is the less bloated Linux/BSD equivalent to Raycast on macOS.

Implemented translucency/blur in my Linux launcher "sysdeck", because apparently glass is a big thing these days. Doesn't look too bad, but will need to text contrast.

The major pain-point I keep hearing in my community MUC is iOS. XMPP is effectively dead on iOS and regular people dread using the existing clients. All it needs is one Signal/WhatsApp style client that doesn't explicitly ask for any server information on first start and simply signs up the user.

And I don't blame you for that, I can see how users with limited technical knowledge can easily fall for its marketing, in the same way regular people liked and bought the Ford Pinto. However, just like with the Pinto, the "manufacturer" vaguely comprehends its defects but hides them deliberately.

Omarchy did not change its mediocre architecture in any meaningful way. It is still the same brittle software that I reviewed a year ago. The author's primary focus still lies on luring unaware users in, with childish themes and other eye-candy, and more recently with an "AI" marketing twist.

マリウス @xn--gckvb8fzb.com · 01/09/2026
All of this is also the reason why I won't publish a follow-up on "A Word on Omarchy" detailing the issues in its latest release, despite many people reaching out to me and asking for exactly that. It is simply not worth the time and effort.

マリウス @xn--gckvb8fzb.com · 01/09/2026
The hype is completely manufactured by the Omarchy author, as well as the YouTubers affiliated with/paid by him. In the grand scheme of things, the project is merely a dent in the trends, which is likely to vanish just as quickly as it appeared.

マリウス @xn--gckvb8fzb.com · 01/09/2026
On an almost daily basis I see people linking to my post from almost a year ago dissecting the 7th grade computer science project that is Omarchy. This should stop. People need to realize that nobody really cares about Omarchy and it is mostly their hatred pushing it into the spotlight.
Apart from posts dunking on the security issues of Omarchy, almost no post on Hacker News about this project gained any significant interest over the past months.

Sadly it seems like Helix (the editor) is a project in which maintainers don't seem to care enough about PRs, which results in those becoming stale eventually, despite them seemingly working just fine (e.g. github.com/helix-editor...). It's a bummer.

Every political philosophy rooted whatever school of thought is going to lead to this outcome when the people at the top are corrupt psychopaths. The nationality doesn't matter, and a European-run world will by no means be any better when led by the same corrupt people currently in power.
