(8.7.2024) tsubamari - this is a comic (1/6) #symphogear

page 1
maria, determined: tsubasa needs a vacation
genjuro and ogawa stare back at her
maria, annoyed: do not tell me you don't see it oh my go-
ogawa: no!! no, we agree!

page 2
ogawa: i specifically have her schedule empty for 2 weeks so she can catch up on sleep.
gen: i've forbidden her from training or any office work for song during that time.
don't tell me she's still working.
maria: well she definitely isn't resting. she comes in with a headache almost every other day!
(flashback of tsubasa with a deep scowl saying good morning to maria but maria only responds with uncertainty)
gen: (tch!) stubborn girl is probably looking through fudou's records to learn as much as she can.
maria: about what?

page 3
gen and ogawa share a look
ogawa: The Kazanari Yakuza. Officially they are under a different surname, but their funds and manpower provide for the Kazanari main branch. Our field teams are conducting investigations for any additional evidence of Fudou's resources, connections, or archives. They're well hidden, but they exist. I know Tsubasa-san expressed interest when she found out we were still uncovering things. The Kazanari Yakuza is our latest lead.
gen, sighing: she must feel obligated to uncover his secrets before she's legally declared head of the clan.
maria: but not at the cost of her health!
gen, thinking: agreed...

page 4
gen, explosive: MARIA-KUN! i'm issueing out an official order! get tsubasa to relax at all costs!!
maria: YES SIR!!

about some much needed down time, (2/6)

page 5
scene changes to maria and tsubasa in a car
tsubasa, confused: and that is why you're taking me to a spa get away? and they just let you?
maria: pretty much, yeah.
tsubasa, flabbergasted: this is absolutely NOT neccess-
maria: that's a bunch of bull and you know it! sometimes i think you don't even know what a break is!

page 6
tsubasa: i just feel i could be more efficient with my time...
maria: think of it this way, if you're well rested, you can give your all when you go back to work. your fans are more than willing to wait.
tsubasa: your reasoning is sound, i'm just being difficult.
maria, teasing: at least you're self aware enough to know that you can be sometimes.
tsubasa, teasing back: i don't think you of all people are qualified to say that.
maria, smirking: oh lay off!

page 7
they arrive at the ryokan and look around

page 8
scene changes to both of them in the hot spring
maria, content: i am never leaving...
tsubasa: agree. i feel the longer i stay here, the more compelling your argument is.
maria: will this convince you to acutally take a break every now and then?
tsubasa: hmm, only if you are with me.
maria: oh, i will drag you with me if i have to haha

(trigger warnings that come with human experimentation) and that one promise (3/6)

page 9
tsubasa notices maria's scar on her cheek (from their fight in xv) and reaches out to touch it
tsubasa, regretful: i never apologized for this, did i?

page 10
maria, leaning into tsubasa's touch: the scar?
tsubasa: yes... i'm sorry... everything i did still haunts me...
maria, grabbing tsubasa's hand: don't be. you weren't yourself. at least this one i got on my own terms.
tsubasa: what do you mean?
maria pauses and contemplates the past

page 11
scene of maria fighting and getting hurt across the anime overlayed by maria's dialogue: You don't go into this line of work expecting to walk away unscathed.
Fighting is part of what we do. We get hurt, we heal.
Sometimes it sticks. And that's fine.

page 12
maria speaks over a tragic scene of child maria forced to go into surgery as an experiment: But you've seen by now, I have a lot of medical scars. Living in the FIS wasn't easy.

about accompanying the other into any battlefield (4/6)

page 13
flashback ends
maria, sad: we were less kids and more lab rats...

page 14
tsubasa, with a distorted view of her chest that features a large scar: do you want to erase them? elfnein can manage that.
maria, her scars on display: no. as ugly as they are, they're a part of me. they make me remember, if that makes sense.

page 15
tsubasa, her hand on top of maria's: it does.
i too have unsightly scars, but they are proof that i survived. that i am here now.
maria: yeah...
maria, resolute: every scar you gave me was my choice. besides, i gave you the one on your knee.
tsubasa: ... i chose that as well.

page 16
tsubasa holds out her pinky
maria: ?
tsubasa, smiling: if they don't trouble you, then i will speak no more of it. you have my apology either way. but from now on, let it be that the only scars we receive are ones of our choosing.

page 23
tsubasa from off screen: good morning.
maria: oh. morning.
tsubasa turns to maria, revealing she is sleep deprived with deep eye bags and all around tired: did you sleep well?
maria, shocked: WHA-!?

page 24

nero's guide is awesome, and concretely helped me with making a website as somebody who doesn't have the brain for this stuff 👍 if you're an artist of any sort, making a website for yourself is one of those things that hugely pays off the extended effort time and again
