I feel like the end result will just be some law that says only giant companies can use AI and not regular people.

Aren’t there a couple buildings near IAD in Loudon that are like semi-unique load bearing pillars of the internet? I remember reading about them like ten years ago.

Being descriptive about little details like what specific food you could buy at vendors, what it smelled like, costumes people wore, and how the crowd behaved went a long way. Lots of “five senses” type descriptions because it’s something everyone is familiar with an easy to make it “but fantasy.”

Oooh! I just ran this! I had encounters/games that were basically checks in different categories the party was good at (STR, CHA, etc). Barbarian got to do the hammer bell game and pie eating contest, wizard beat the rigged ring toss with Mage Hand, that sort of stuff. It was a fun backdrop.

A caster who can change the battlefield (like throwing around chunks of the floor) or a controller martial who can force big movement of enemies with “get over here” abilities. Makes for some of the most dynamic play.

Fucking what?! I can’t remember a job interview that didn’t involve the company wining and dining me. I’ll bring whatever I want to an interview.

Crazy fast healing. Other species could be far more fragile or take longer to heal. I remember reading some short sci-fi story in middle or high school where the humans were feared because you would shoot one and then see them again in a year, fully healed. Other species took decades to heal.

Sure, unforced error, but speaking as someone in one of the bluest neighborhoods in Austin, I don’t think anyone is staying home over this. He could chuck puppies into a wood chipper on TV and people would still be lining up to vote against Paxton.

So do we think Apple has asked themselves how much liability they would be incurring for all the watches worn in hospitals across the country recording PHI?
121
Wynning @wynning.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
This will be fun for hospital staff. I wonder how much liability Apple would have for thousands of HIPAA violations via the watch.

Ok I can actually speak to this firsthand. Went there two or three years ago and there was a big pack of furries being drunk/kinda horny (fine, whatever). The problem was that the fun animal costumes are catnip for little kids, so now they stand out to parents and it becomes an issue.

So if it’s the Bluey video game, is my family now a cute Simpsons guest star dog-version of ourselves or are we still humans but living in a world of sentient bipedal dogs?

Second reason: no facilities in the military system place LVADs. Walter Reed transfers to INOVA Fairfax. BAMC transfers to Methodist San Antonio. Thats not a thing you want done at a low volume program.

Wynning @wynning.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
There’s about 100 reasons I can think of that it’s not an LVAD. That’s a major surgery where he would spend several days or weeks in the hospital before and after.

This is correct. Lower paying specialities like pediatrics, family medicine, ID, IM, etc are now debt traps. You’ll spend almost a decade in school and residency to then spend a decade or more breaking even on your loans.

Very senior attending surgeon peeking over the drapes to a CA3 resident: “You’re still here? I thought you finished last month. Did they hold you back or something? Not surprised, just shocked they allowed it.” Class, she was not held back and did nothing wrong, he just had no sense of time.

My math brain won’t let me take something less than the $500k. (I think it also helps that I am in a situation where neither amount would drastically change my life, just be nice bonus money for some slightly bigger vacations and dumping into retirement savings.)

Wynning @wynning.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
$100/day happens fast with lifestyle inflation. The $15 lunch out turns into $30. You start buying groceries at the fancy store. The prime steak instead of choice. The $6 box of pasta, etc. Once you hit a certain income you have to actively be mindful to stop that shit. I know I don’t.

Yep. The vibe I got was they anticipated Trump 2’s DOD to be a shit show with lots of illegal nonsense but it is turning out even worse than imagined because they aren’t seeing their bosses push back like they expected.

My informal straw polling, conducted while participants drank beer in my garage, does show that there are a lot of O-5/6s who *do* see it coming and are sprinting as fast as they can to drop retirement paperwork. (There may be some cohort bias.)

Yes, but also it’s like not even close.
Fake pump missing the entire center in some AI imageThe real IV pump is triple the size and has an entire other middle section missing from the AI version.

Wynning @wynning.bsky.social · 19/07/2026
The weird fake part-Baxter, part-Alaris IV pump that is just two channels with no brain in the center is the dead giveaway to me. That’s not a product that exists on the market.

Basically, they’re gonna keep him on a vent (+/- ECMO, etc) for X amount of time. He isn’t going to get better. Days or weeks will go by. Docs will have a conversation with the family where someone *finally* says it’s futile. Then they’ll withdraw care. It’s an unfortunately predictable pattern.

Wynning @wynning.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
… so they have him in CVICU with mechanical circulatory support. He’s not a 45 year old CrossFit bro. He isn’t going to recover the heart function back. He isn’t going to do the aggressive PT they can to recover. He’s going to rot in bed until he dies. It’s just a question of how long it takes.

Wynning @wynning.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
It’s not even the rib cage, it’s the reduced heart function afterwards and all the second order effects of the arrest. An 80 year old who was already frail isn’t going to do well with acidosis and an EF <10%. Let’s assume he still gets all the treatments he doesn’t qualify for…

I worked in one of the highest acuity CVICUs in the US. This was my bread and butter. Yeah, dude is toast. “Best” case he spends the rest of his life in an LTAC. I wish people understood how rare recovery to “normal” is with a cardiac arrest.

My players currently have an unresolved plot thread of helping the Crescent Badges solve a string of high profile bank robberies and assassinations across the continent. The only connecting clue (so far) is a single gold coin left at each scene with a tiny chip taken out of the edge.

If you’re poor and urban: the city guard If you’re poor and rural: local militia, hunters/trackers, or neighbors If you have money: the Crescent Badges. Think lawful good Pinkertons. Good reputation; work collaboratively with the city guard or locals; very competent; very expensive.

Sitting in the lounge between a case and they have the TV on a local ABC station owned by Sinclair. I didn’t realize how bad local stations have gotten. It’s non-stop batshit insane Newsmax/OANN conspiracy nonsense about Soros, obvious paid spots for data center PR, and Trump admin cheerleading.

I want a Star Wars version of a True Detective style gritty police drama set in the depths of Coruscant’s lower levels. Two regular detectives hunting a Force sensitive serial killer while uncovering some fucked up deeper plot…

One of my close friends is a prosecutor. He has repeatedly told us, “my job would be exponentially harder if criminals would shut the fuck up and only commit one crime at a time. Luckily, most criminals are incapable of doing either.”

I’m convinced it’s housing. In 2008, I worked as a firefighter and could afford a $350k condo in Arlington, VA. In 2026, I do anesthesia, make 10x my old salary as a firefighter, but would pay $6700/mo for that same unit if it sold today. Had I not switched careers I could never buy a house.

I don’t understand this attitude. I am stoked that my wife’s career allows us to live in a seven-figure home and lets me bop around in a new luxury car every couple of years. There’s literally no downside unless you suck as a spouse.

They need to add automatic liability or additional liability for crashes involving vehicles with lift kits. Make the big stupid trucks uninsurable or so legally precarious to drive that hitting a pedestrian would be financially ruinous for the truck owner. “Is the lift kit worth risking my house?”

Yet their take-away lesson won’t be making more quality Andor-style shows. It won’t be tossing Filoni out on his ass. It will be to just not make Star Wars content.

I’m sure she is also cooking her brain with a social media diet full of far right slop. I’ve noticed a lot of people who’ve appeared on my feed (like mandatoryfunday) are starting to slip that direction, too. Same shit you saw with forums like Lightfighter around 2012 to 2016-ish.

They also shot each other/themselves at the Capitol baseball game shooting. I believe one was an ND into a foot/leg as they drew their weapon and the other was blue on blue.

Fact check: True. As a NOVA native, we do hold the rural areas of the state in contempt because the people who live there mostly fucking suck. It’s why everyone who has the ability to leave those places does.

But that’s not how stats report them. Eggs are eggs, even if what’s currently a standard egg is a wildly inferior product to what the same thing was in the 1980s.

Wynning @wynning.bsky.social · 14/04/2026
My childhood neighbor is a retired chef. I visited with her a year ago and she spent the entire time educating me about how eggs have slowly declined into dogshit quality with sickly yellow yolks instead of the deep red-orange yolks she grew up with. The good eggs exist, but they are $12+/dozen now

Theres also the factor of certain good blue collar jobs (like firefighters) slowly transitioning to a hybrid job closer to a white collar one (EMS focused, paramedic required). Boomers in the industry then make it miserable, fighting it tooth and nail because it hurts their identity.

Wynning @wynning.bsky.social · 31/03/2026
So many to choose from. The most interesting is the party’s wizard patron assigning them quests, who is on the downhill slide to doing some awful stuff for noble reasons. Him succeeding would mean unleashing a god-killing force he can’t control into the world. He does not know this.

When I was a firefighter I worked on a crew with a couple corn fed dudes who were 300-some lbs and 6’7” and 6’9”, respectively. The amount of random MMA-cosplay dudes at bars that tried to pick fights with them was insane. They were very short altercations.
051
Wynning @wynning.bsky.social · 24/03/2026
100% chance these dudes wanted to be military or join the fire department but were pussies and/or had disqualifying things in their application. So yeah, LARPing.
