I know they're never perfect, but I am amazed how good these models are and how far they've come. I don't think the weather community gives them enough credit.

After moving from the big city to the country, my stamp and personal check usage has increased like 10 fold.

By their definition these aren't PREs since they aren't wholly supplying the moisture as it's physically impossible due to terrain. That's probably why they focused on Atlantic storms.

Yeah tx forecasters for decades keyed in on these recurving pacific storms causing flood events, but not always. Bosarts work was a lightbulb moment for me as we could explain what was happening and why some events didn't materialize with nearly identical satellite presentations.

I researched these events, presented at a couple confs, but never had time to formally publish. There's a training video hidden on the FWD YouTube channel but I don't have the link anymore. Long story short the synoptic dynamics occur frequently, but the Gulf has to be "open" for low level moisture.

Bowl eligible? Such optimism.

A year's worth of kitchen scraps combined with leaves and brown paper waste from Amazon boxes went in the tumbler and yielded a few gallons of rich compost. Now it goes back to the vegetable garden for the next cycle.

I think the article has an error. It's supposed to be wet bulb globe temperature. They had it right in the beginning but seemed to omit 'globe' later on.

Daytime high of 74, cloudy and a northerly breeze. There's no weather better for an August mow.

Figured you had some real numbers. Seems like this will kick the can through winter. We will see what el nino can do...

This is exactly what was needed to alleviate the Corpus Christi water emergency. Unfortunately the root of the problem is that the local politicians promised industry more water than climatology can provide.

New (to me) snake. Eastern coachwhip. 3+ feet and fastest snake I've ever seen. Stumbled on a second equally big one a few yards away. Mating shenanigans I am sure.

It's been a year since I retired. 2 surprising findings: I was worried I would be bored without work, and most certainly have not been. I also thought I would pick up weather related activities on the side, and that desire just hasn't shown up.

I heard you couldn't get hail coverage at 1% deductible there anymore. If that's true then the prospect of a "free" roof has got to make a dent in that business.

Everything is performative BS with these people just to get a headline. And the media and the market keeps playing along.

Tried and true method for laying out a clear, logical argument: Intro with a thesis statement. Topic sentences followed by well-researched supporting arguments. Cite your sources. Conclusion summarizing the points you just made.

Sadly the only memories involved are the 1998 central American smoke plume that invaded south Texas for a month and the 2005 north Texas wildfire season. Those were my formative years I guess.

Living amongst national forests has its benefits. Unfortunately in early spring prescribed burns can turn a nice day into a smokey apocalypse. Visibility down to 1 to 2 miles from a burn 30 miles away.

My low last night was -11 F. Of all sites that report their data in real time, that was the coldest in Arkansas. Snow pack and river valley cold air drainage is some serious business.

Often I have to ask is the model really forecasting it (does it have the microphysics) or is this just postprocessing algorithms to make some best guesses for pretty maps? I suspect this is a case of the latter since it's so bad but I don't know enough about the ecm.
