3”+ of rain for the north and central OKC metro. Closing in on 1.5”-2” in Norman and south OKC metro. Over 5-9”+ of rain to the west and southwest of OKC. And these are just 12 hour totals with heavy rain continuing.

Might be the closest things we get to something resembling a hurricane this season in the Atlantic. (It's a Nor'Easter but with a wonderful spiral-like structure, similar to a tropical system in appearance).

Officially 110 F for a high today in Norman, OK. Ridiculous for late August.

Beautiful depiction of a mesohigh from an MCS passing through eastern Oklahoma this morning. Just lightning in the distance here in Norman, but maybe some rain coming through soon.

And no, it's not a "dry heat" (at least in the eastern half of the state):

The area in and near Thunder Bay, Ontario (right on Lake Superior) currently experiencing temperatures near or over 100°F. Their normal high this time of year is 75°F. All time record at the airport is 40°C (about 104°F).

Can anyone point me to a csv file to download tornado reports across the US dating from 1950 to near present? The file I have looks like this, but it ends in 2019.

I believe the technical term is “puking snow” in Providence and much of SE MA right now. Easily 2-4”/hour rates in that bad. Also, winds are howling with gusts near 55-60 mph!

I’m not sure if I am ever going to be able to get to Houston for the AMS meeting, if these accumulations actually happen.
Snowfall accumulation forecast map for Oklahoma for Friday to Saturday. It shows a potential 8-12” for Oklahoma City into east central Oklahoma.

We are 5-6 days away from a potential winter storm in Oklahoma. Run to run variability is very high right now with this storm, including timing, track, and intensity. Nevertheless, this map is making the rounds on social media. Does this forecast accurately reflect the storm or the science?

Lots of discussion about the #PolarVortex recently. In terms of wave reflection, after some activity this week, conditions will not be favorable for the rest of the month, likely meaning a -PNA / warm up pattern across N America. Possibilities for wave reflection return in early Jan 2026. #S2S

Some overnight freezing drizzle and lots of elevated services (bridges and overpasses) is making for a slow and precarious commute in OKC this morning. Precip is pretty much done but it will take a while for conditions to clear out on the roads.

File this under "Not the canonical response to major SSWs across much of the Northern Hemisphere." Much of Eurasia is forecast to be above average. In North America, the pattern looks more like strat reflection with MJO Phase 6-8 teleconnections mixed in. From the latest ECMWF weeklies. #S2S

The NH #PolarVortex is very weak right now, with a hint from the ECMWF of winds at 10 hPa, 60 N becoming slightly below zero m/s (i.e., turning easterly) for 1 day. Then, a very rapid strengthening thereafter. Whether this officially becomes a major SSW or not remains to be seen. #S2S
