Shaydullaev with some beautiful scrambling Defends by whizzering and using his shoulder to block the head at first, then goes to all fours and builds up when his opponent trips, hammers his face while he's on his knees, then kani basamis out of the tree-top finish

Marcus McGhee is quite impressive. He doesn't have great reactions or comfort in exchanges - you can tell he started late. Yet he's made himself about as good as he could be with those limitations. Disciplined and versatile, defensively responsible, builds off his attacks well.

Just wanting to bump this wonderful @www.mixingmartialarts.com's article again. Super cool look at strikers in MMA with a Karate twist, Khun Khmer, and Moraingy. It's what got me way too hyped for Tekken's disappointing Moraingy representative. 3 Neat Strikers You've Never Heard Of

Patricio's jab hitting Choi like a truck
061
MixingMartialArts.com @www.mixingmartialarts.com · 22/09/2026
Patricio's so confident in his distance and has nerves of steel He'd stand at the end of Choi's jab and just watching it come, only moving at the very last second He steps into it just as Choi reaches full extension with a slight parry or dip and puts his right hand through Choi's jaw
061
MixingMartialArts.com @www.mixingmartialarts.com · 22/09/2026
It told Choi that even his feints weren't safe and made it harder for him to gauge distance effectively. After Patricio landed a few good punches, his feints became more threatening, and he was drawing Choi into ill-advised entries off the backfoot
010
MixingMartialArts.com @www.mixingmartialarts.com · 22/09/2026
One thing I appreciated about Patricio's performance against Choi is that he made sure to feint back whenever Choi tried to feint him out at range He'd show a counter without committing too hard and exposing himself or use a few feints/throaways punches to take space

How Joshua Van Dethroned The Flyweight King
Backstepping hooks, underhooks, and hiding the back.

MixingMartialArts.com @www.mixingmartialarts.com · 21/09/2026
In the full article, I discuss: - How Pantoja adjusted and found success in transitions - How Van modified his rear hand to avoid the clinch - And where Pantoja went wrong on top
111
MixingMartialArts.com @www.mixingmartialarts.com · 21/09/2026
Van's defensive grappling was great, as he remained tenaciously committed to underhooking, closing off Pantoja's routes to the back He would stop Pantoja's clinch takedowns by digging an underhook and even posted up out of mount with the underhook shutting down back takes
110
MixingMartialArts.com @www.mixingmartialarts.com · 21/09/2026
Pantoja would circle Van into his jab to set up early blitzes, but telegraphing made it easy to read and Van started lighting him up on the counter Van's jab took over, his smooth motion hiding it behind natural shifts of weight and steps where Pantoja couldn't react
110
MixingMartialArts.com @www.mixingmartialarts.com · 21/09/2026
His most effective tool for killing the blitz was a backstepping hook He steps his rear foot all the way back into southpaw at an angle, mirroring Pantoja shift to keep uniform distance, and getting outside his rear hand Pantoja has to stop and turn before he can re-engage

MixingMartialArts.com @www.mixingmartialarts.com · 21/09/2026
It was a similar dynamic to Ronda Rousey's fights - planting your feet to throw the right hand squares you up and exposes you to clinch ties But Van quickly got his bearings and relied more on his lead hand
110
MixingMartialArts.com @www.mixingmartialarts.com · 21/09/2026
Pantoja is an odd sort of blitz fighter - instead of quickly moving in and out, he blitzes in a continuous line, running forward until he finds the clinch or his opponent hits the cage When Van planted and tried to throw his right hand, Pantoja would just eat it and keep going

How Joshua Van Dethroned The Flyweight King 🧵 Pantoja started strong, blitzing into a takedown right out of the gate But Van's patience, discipline, and consistency got the job done as he kept himself safe on the ground and picked Pantoja apart on the feet
