Several months ago, over a period of ~22 hours, I wrote down some thoughts that have been banging around in my head for the past few years. @geomorphica.bsky.social have just published those thoughts. #GeospatialRevolution 🧪⚒️❄️ journals.psu.edu/geomorphica/...
A perspective view of a river valley, with the lower elevation parts represented by a lidar hillshade (from open access BC Lidar portal) and the remainder from the ESRI satellite basemap. Various features, including a landslide and ancient meanders on the river terraces are visible in the lidar but not easily interpreted from the satellite imagery.

Our paper on the Tracy Arm megatsunami has been downloaded 98,735 times since it was released online about 6 weeks ago. I know it's just a number but I'd love for it to get to 100,000 before two months is out. You should download it and also repost this! 🧪⚒️ www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

A 481-meter-high landslide-tsunami in a cruise ship–frequented Alaska fjord
Early in the morning of 10 August 2025, a >64 × 106–cubic meter landslide struck Tracy Arm fjord in Alaska. The landslide was preconditioned by glacial retreat caused by climate change. The resulting ...

Destabilization of buried carbon under changing moisture regimes
Abstract. Paleosols formed by the burial of topsoil during landscape evolution can sequester substantial amounts of soil organic carbon (SOC) over millennia due to protection from surface disturbances...

Happy (in spite of everything) to share our new paper on loess tablelands, mesa-like landforms of highly erodible sediment, that persist without a resistant caprock for tens of thousands of years, if not longer. Why? 1/5 agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...

Confession: I don't use *any* reference manager. I've tried various ones numerous times over the years, but nothing stuck. I just get it done. When I told some grad students this recently they looked at me like I was an alien. But, hey, papers get submitted, papers get published, I'm fine with it.
