Tetanus hasn’t disappeared — vaccination made it rare. The bacteria live in soil & can enter through cuts or puncture wounds. Diphtheria is a serious bacterial infection that affects the throat and can make it hard to breathe. Before vaccines, it was a leading cause of death in children. Thanks to routine vaccines (DTaP/Tdap), cases dropped dramatically—but it still exists and can return where vaccination rates fall.
