Thx to my friend for catching this moment from my Big Ears 2026 set. I was singing straight into the #guzheng, using its body as my amplifier. As my voice hit the sound hole, all the harmonics of 21 strings rang out. The sound waves travelled through my eardrums & I could feel my brain vibrating.

After a delicious dinner made by Mrs. Wu, Mr. Wu, a historian of Shaxi, Yunnan Province, sang us a famous folk love song of the Bai people (he’s a Bai 白族). The instrument is called Dragon Sanxian (龙三弦), a traditional plucked fretless 3-string instrument with a wooden dragon head on top.
