Volunteers vs vegetation 🌱 Last week we were joined by a team from Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru, volunteering at our Lavernock Point nature reserve. They helped to clear scrub and Bramble from the WW2 Gun Battery and Scheduled Ancient Monument area. Thank you to Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru for all you hard work!

Fungi facts to brighten your day: 🍄‍🟫 Meet the Parasol Mushroom - in Welsh, we call it Ambarelo'r Bwgan, literally meaning 'ghost's umbrella'. 🐔 A fan-favourite fungi is Chicken of the Woods. In Welsh, this is Ysgwydd Felen, literally meaning 'yellow shoulder'. Happy autumn (aka fungi season!)

💧 Provide water for birds. A shallow container of clean water is essential for garden birds in autumn. Replace with fresh water and disinfect the container regularly. 🕷️ Be kind to spiders. House spiders live indoors year-round. Avoid putting them outside when you spot them in your house.

How to help wildlife this autumn: 🍂 Embrace a messy garden. Fallen leaves, log piles and seedheads are important shelter and food for birds and insects. 🦔 Look out for Hedgehogs. Can Hedgehogs move freely through your neighbourhood? If not, consider leaving a small gap at the base of fences.

What are those funky lumps and bumps on plants? Introducing: galls! Simply put, they're growths on plants, made from plant tissue. And they can be caused by insects, bacteria or fungus. Once you start to spot them, you'll see them everywhere!
