Starting September 11, 2026, all lanes of I-5 southbound will be closed through the Rose Quarter between I-405 and I-84 around the clock for up to 5 weeks. This project will reconstruct Walker Road between 173rd and 185th avenues by: creating additional travel lanes for a total of two lanes in each direction, adding a new traffic signal to the Walker Road and 178th Avenue/Cambray Street intersection Raising the street grade at Willow Creek by 8-10 feet for improved sight distance and rideability, building buffered bike lanes, improving sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb ramps, updating street lighting, and upgrading storm water drainage.

Metro, state, and regional partners have created a draft Regional Vanpool Action Plan to address the lack of vanpooling opportunities in the region and capitalize on an opportunity provided by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to support vanpool programming and subsidies for a limited duration.
