Fantastic Four 90 (Sept 1969) cover by Jack Kirby/Joe Sinnott. This is the start of Kirby’s last multi-issue epic during his FF run (it was single issue stories afterward) and it’s a good one as The Thing is kidnapped by a Skrull and sold as a slave. And only one splash this issue, the opening page.

A Skrull disguised as Reed Richards uses some type of gas to subdue the Thing.

This is Action Comics issue 480 page 8 (1978) by Curt Swan and Frank Chiaramante. Hawkman and Green Lantern are stuck in the JLA satellite fixing extensive damage from the rampaging Amazo Android. Superman was knocked straight out of the satellite into the ocean, but in typical Superman style, he bounces back with panache. Dolphins! He burst out of the ocean in a pod of dolphins, totally ready for summer. Sorry, Lantern and Hawk, you guys are stuck on space duty, no beach for you!

Daily 60s read. Unicorn is dying but Red Ghost makes him believe his injection will keep him alive. Forcing him to steal Stark's cosmic ray emitter so he can get his power back and create a super simian army. His originals were put down by the Soviets after he defected.

In the fall of ‘54 the Comic Code was created so that the govt wouldn’t shut down comics. This the cover to Weird Tales of Suspense and Horror - The Thing number 14, drawn by Steve Ditko. The concept of this comic was horror stories told by a creature called The Thing. Man, they went really hard in horror comics in the 50s. Well, until the Code. Demonic monsters fly around the cover, tearing at a poor woman. She is left broken on the ground as an extreme close-up of the demonic creature stares at the viewer. This was the last of the pre-Code horror comics, and boy did it go hard.

Wanna see something cool? This is the first credited Simon and Kirby story! Jack started on issue 2 when Simon noticed this Kirby kid on a comic strip and brought him in. This is the cover to Blue Bolt number 5 drawn by Will Rowland. Blue Bolt stands at the ready, a harpoon aimed at a tentacled monster writhing up his leg. Another man is already in its grasp, reaching out to our hero for help. Blue Bolt has you, dude, Simon and Kirby would have it no other way. If you ever wondered why Simon got top billing over Kirby, it’s because this is where they started working together and Simon created the character. I guess they didn’t change the dynamic going forward, until Kirby struck out on his own.
