Well done. I hiked 23,000 steps today but it was relatively cool with not much elevation. Still, NL is challenging me. Went up Brimstone Head today - which was a big deal because I’m scared of heights. ;-)

Today, Hubby and I spent some time at the Miner’s Museum in Glace Bay. Sobering stuff. And we had some great conversations with retired miners. Highly recommended.
A large sign advertising the presence of the Miner’s Museum stands outside a modern, multi-level I structure perched not far from a cliff overlooking the Atlantic. Invisible are the remains of coal mines dug deep under the ocean floor many miles off shore.

This tiny northern parula has been trying to break into our camper since yesterday. I’ve done everything I can think of to discourage her but nothing seems to work. I don’t think she’s hurting herself but I can’t figure out what her motivation is. Suggestions?

Timeline cleanse: A collage and stitch piece I completed this morning entitled “earthrise”. I made it with hand-painted and mono print papers. I was thinking of the shots of earth from behind the moon the Artemis crew brought back but the colours make me think it’s a view from Mars.
A 5” x 7” paper collage with a bright orange sky, and two-toned turquoise foreground. “Earth” is emerging from the skyline with her moon shining in the distance. The collage incorporates stitching in black, cream and black embroidery floss to emphasize key elements.

Lately, when I feel overwhelmed by all the awful news, I take time to quiet my mind & heart by collaging. Currently, I’m working on a board board of mini-collages. These are two pages I completed this morning. There’s something very meditative about playing with form & colour this way. #papercollage
A child’s board book is being repurposed as a canvas for - series of small paper collages. The collages are created using an assortment of hand-painted papers. The image includes two pages composed of papers that are primarily red, orange and pink in colour, arranged in abstract patterns. The lower page has a single red heart as a focal point.

For those following along, my meals this week have been quixotic at best. Fortunately, I found the time & energy to do a little better tonight - voila grilled zucchini & halloumi on homemade jalapeño cheese sourdough finished with fresh oregano, garlic scape salt & a drizzle of balsamic. Yum!

Not the most beautiful solution but functional. The elevated rain barrel effectively provides running water to the greenhouse, which watering a breeze.

Nature is truly amazing. On the way to the beach, I counted 5 types of wildflowers blooming within yards of this rocky shoreline. I’m not sure what’s growing between the rocks but it’s tough AF. Reminds me of a lot of East Coast folks I know.
A small plant with long leaves and dried out flower stocks from last year is growing in a modest clump of earth wedged between two rock outcroppings a few feet from shore.

It’s a good day that starts with a (slow) run along Risser’s Beach.
A view of the beach from the eastern end. The tide is almost fully out and massive rocks line the entrance to the beach. A boardwalk running across the marsh behind the beach stretches into the distance. To the left and right, bright green grasses and other plants provide a pop of colour. In the distance, there are glimpses of the mouth of the Petite Rivière. A shot from the stairs at the west end of the beach. Dramatic clouds are visible above the beach.
