I don't take any medication for my ADHD after several bad reactions, so I've tried to find other methods to help me control both my environment and my ability to focus and this has been by far the most effective method for that purpose.

I have my own experience with this lately that Ill talk about in full later, but I can provide (anecdotal) evidence that this is absolutely the case and that personal tooling (not even just the LLMs themselves) fully customized to my needs has completely transformed the way I work.

it does have a nice almost buttery aftertaste Im digging. I think if you leaned into that more and toned down the sweet it'd be real good

#1 is obviously a combo as well - Language & Culture. The ability to rapidly spread & learn information combined with the weird way flesh-computers process data (see: narratives, chunking, memetics, etc) is why we're so smort. This one's real cool but I like the hands facts more lol

♃ @wrin.fyi · 29/09/2026
Like yes we have thumbs but so do a lot of apes. Our hands are something completely different, there's not really anything like them. They are miracle workers. They're still only #2 though even with the combo

That doesn't exist in a vacuum. We also have a ton of special sensors in our fingers that feed information to us 24/7 about temperature, pressure, vibration, etc. A whole array. Combine that with the best manual dexterity in the animal kingdom and you get hands that can perform surgery, etc.

♃ @wrin.fyi · 29/09/2026
Runners up though are fun. These are like, actual human superpowers. Our sense of touch specifically on our fingers is insane. Beyond any of our other senses. Human fingers can resolve two points a single micrometer apart. That's 1/10th human hair width. BUT

Some honorable mentions before the runners up: We're kind of weirdly average at like everything, making us amazing generalists. Decent sniffers, okay eyes, pretty good ears, very strong bite force, a pretty good digestive system, and real nice kidneys. Good stuff.

Tres: A M Y L A S E - This is probably something no one really thinks about but mammals are bad at processing starch (generally). Humans evolved with additional amylase genes that let us actually turn it into efficient calories. We're literally built to Eat Potat. (pigs have it too!)

#2 - Long Distance Endurance Running. This is tied into the first one but is also because of how our body regulates bloodflow & oxygen, and some specific fancy stuff about our lungs. Our breath control is amazing and it lets us just keep going when other animals would give up.

♃ @wrin.fyi · 29/09/2026
We have some other good ones. I'll save the best for last. First - Heat regulation. Our ability to sweat buckets, our relative hairlessness, and some fancy internal clockwork makes us the best-in-class mammal for body temp regulation. We're insane at this.

♃ @wrin.fyi · 29/09/2026
Oh this plant developed an ornate chemical defense system to prevent mammals from ruining its seeds? Lmao throw it in curry. Oh theobromine and caffeine kill like 90% of mammals? Giving my crush a box of chocolate for valentines day. We're kinda cracked chat.

♃ @wrin.fyi · 29/09/2026
An oft-overlooked human superpower is our ability to just simply ignore a lot of poisons that would absolutely destroy most mammals. You know that fantasy trope where dwarves are resistant to poison and drink a lot of booze? That is us but IRL

THE CLANS HEIR IS A TRANS WOMAN (2013) is like Steven Seagal decided to Write/Direct/Star in a love letter to his trans friends, but it looks and feels like every action movie he's made... except Hitoshi Ozawa is way way way way cooler than Seagal.

Many people don't understand probability very well and many of them are resistant to having it explained to them. This leads some designers to creating mechanics that work like the player's instinctive (read: fucking wrong) understanding of probability, further confusing everyone.

I have discussions with players about this problem frequently. Probability doesn't work that way!

There have been two occasions in my career where I had to go to war with teammates against mistaken understandings of probability. In both cases, it was because people expected large numbers of d6s to occasionally result in maximum damage. But the curves for 3d6 and 15d6 (e.g.) look like this:
Two curves showing the distribution of results across 3d6 and 15d6. At the extreme ends of the first, 3 and 18 are both 0.46% likely. On the second curve, the extremes are 15 and 90 damage, but the probability drops below 0.00% below 29 and above 76.

The reason we create rules in the first place (in TTRPGs) is to bind a shared experience. When I say, "Do you want to play some D&D?" you know what to expect, with some level of variance. Everyone has a different tolerance for variance, that's where finding the right group comes from.

Okay given where we're at in the tech tree right now this is usually the part in Stellaris where we either discover a major cybernetics breakthrough, master generic manipulation, or learn our whole species is a psychic conduit for the far realm. Tbh I want #1 or #3 but we're legit close to 2 lol

I've got some complicated feelings on this that won't fit neatly into Poasting, a blog later perhaps. My 300 chars is mostly that IMO this isn't a neat & tidy issue and will impact some folks very hard and barely impact others at all, and it has to do with how we approach inner vs outer worlds.
