What do Trump and Netanyahu care about the truth?

Fair enough, the resolution was probably a mistake. But the reaction to it has been hysterical, and George is joining in with it to some extent.

That's a true account of how power works. But how are you supposed to correct that? Just suggesting ideas for reform isn't going to do it. The reforms would have to be carried out by the very people your criticising.

I think that's a bit harsh. Campaigning can have an impact, but it's a slow process. What I do know is that people are going to continue being deeply flawed and selfish, etc. regardless of any amount of moral exhorting from George.

I was trying to find words to say this, but couldn't. It's people trying to make a quick buck, or have some instant pleasure. That's the way a lot of people - most possibly - are. The exceptions are people like George who analyse everything to the nth degree to find out the long term consequences.

Even if they capped donation, it wouldn't make much difference to policy. Politicians are part of the same class as business elites, that's the issue. They would get their reward one way or another.

I've started an attempt to write a longer piece of writing. Normally I do stories under 2000 words. The longest thing I've written is a sci-fi story that is 12000 words. This story is about a young guy who gets a job in a construction site after finishing school.

Things can change quickly; things can also drag on in more or less the same way for very long periods. I agree that despair is counter-productive, but if that's how you feel it's not that easy to just switch to being hopeful. If it's real despair, and not just superficial defeatism.

Profit is the cornerstone of our socioeconomic system. What's needed is a new cornerstone. 'Maximise profit' is a tangible purpose to structure society around, no matter how destructive. Until a convincing alternative is offered, people will prefer 'maximise profit' to nothing.

Those are your values - which I happen to share - but that doesn't mean that they can be everyone's values. I don't think it's possible to bring a certain type of person round to that philosophy. Human nature is diverse; people are different.

I did an open mic in a pub in Leith (Edinburgh) on Tuesday evening. I was nervous, my legs were shaking, but it seemed to go down well. First time doing that.

For an isolated person to make sacrifices like dropping Amazon or eating less meat or taking the bus rather than the car, it feels like they're making life more difficult (or less pleasurable) for no obvious payoff. If the people around them are not doing those things too then it feels pointless.

For a lot of people the organisations that would allow them to participate in society aren't there. A lot of people are isolated. Also, most people are just trying to make a living, to sustain themselves and their family. They don't have the time/energy/motivation/knowledge for activism.

The left appear to be better than the right, because they point out all the problems with society that the right ignores/rationalizes away. But if the left ever got power in it's own hands- watch out. Their latent power drive would display itself and you'd get ugly results. Forget about free speech.

This is a feed about creative writing. I have written two books - one short stories and the other short pieces of reflective writing. Here I will post about things I am writing, times when I have performed my writing, and other things relating to my creative writing.

The UK and the US are very much part of the same system. 'We' are 'them' really.
