In Winnipeg? Play hockey? Want to be in a Sony film? I'm not affiliated with this, to be clear, but a Winnipeg company is casting male hockey players, aged 18-40, for -paid!- work in a feature film. Apply here / remember me when you're famous ⤵️ karicasting.ca/special-skil...

Hurricanes fans may remember me as the fellow who argued in June and July that it would make sense for Carolina to be interested in Hellebuyck because the rising cap is changing the value proposition of "don't spend on goalies." $8.5M is affordable and getting more so each year

Murat Ates @wpgmurat.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
If it were to happen, presumably the heart of it would be the Hurricanes getting enough back by way of picks and prospects to assemble the Hellebuyck acquisition cost. Not sure which other players would be involved. I have no sense of imminence, but believe it's being explored.

Friedman has mentioned Carolina's exploration of a three team trade for Connor Hellebuyck a couple of times now. I'm told there's sense in that. Alex Nikishin recently switched agents and presumably the new agent, Paul Theofanous, is helping teams gauge Nikishin's signability.

Josh Morrissey joked that he's lost something like six records overnight. He supports it, though. As does Mark Scheifele, who has always been chasing Dale Hawerchuk whatever the record books used to say.

CORRECTION/UPDATE: Lukas Gustafsson, Dysin Mayo, Ashton Sautner, and Davis Burnside had all already signed AHL deals. Those four players will all report to Manitoba Moose training camp, too.

Happy to defend the WPG argument if you're doing more than dunking. It starts with Hellebuyck posting his career-worst regular season save percentage, but there's obviously more to it.

Appreciated Scott Arniel's reason for not telling me more about how the #NHLJets' PK tweaks: "I can't give that to you because everybody reads what you're writing." (😅🙃)

The line change was... Legal? Marjala got a huge head start by jumping off the offensive zone end of Edmonton's bench before his teammate had hopped off the ice on the neutral zone end of it. I think Winnipeg might have been mad if it were the regular season.

Danny Zhilkin showing patience and speed and the ability to -do something- that some of the other youth in this game haven't quite managed. Good moment from him, to be sure... Still don't think anyone battling for a fourth line job has been demonstrably better than Vladislav Namestnikov has been.

Murat Ates @wpgmurat.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
If it does, then it's a tell. My read on Arniel's commentary thus far is that Bauer is at or near the top of his list for that job until Salomonsson comes back.

I like St. Ivany more, because I value his ability on the puck for a team that's talking so much about playing faster and more connected. I do understand how the abject lack of physicality elsewhere on the roster would distort Winnipeg's view, though.

Murat Ates @wpgmurat.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
(What I think comes of it is a lot of d-zone time, blocks, and hits.)

Murat Ates @wpgmurat.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
(FWIW I fully expect Winnipeg to give him a regular season look at 3RD. Not sure how long or what comes of it, but he has his advocates.)

Murat Ates @wpgmurat.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
I don't like much of what Tyrel Bauer does with the puck but I have more time for his feet and what I perceive to be his reads than I did before camp. Not sure that he helps. Encouraged that he battles (and can find the battles.)

Stuart Skinner's biggest takeaway from his first #NHLJets game: "The love from the fans, especially at the beginning there before the anthem, that felt fantastic. The 'Stu' chants around a couple saves, those always feel really good. You can tell how much the fans love it here..." (continued)

The Winnipeg Jets beat Colorado's travel team 3-1 in preseason action. Stuart Skinner stops 31 of 32 shots, getting the "W" in his first ever game in a Jets jersey, while Winnipeg gets goals from Gabriel Vilardi, Cole Perfetti, and Dylan DeMelo to seal the win.
