Me (about a misbehaving child on a plane): You can't think of any reason a family might not be able to be like yours? The child is disabled or recently adopted, the parents are ill or grieving? Their travel plans went wrong and everyone's exhausted?

Nothing makes me feel Doomed like this kind of refusal to engage with women's oppression without finding some subcategory of women to blame. The only context for this post is someone saying patriarchy is a problem, and the immediate response is that it's women's fault for allowing it.

A bluesky post saying, "Straight women seem like the lynchpin here. Inside families, women tolerate & enable abusive behavior by their sons and rationalize their husbands' allegiance to a violent, racist patriarchy. Affluent, educated, white women raised these monster tech bros. I need some analysis on that process."

Not a direct answer but Adonia Lugo shares a lot of insight on her book Bicycle/Race. Something that stuck with me from reading it years ago is how, for a lot of poor people, having a car means more dignity. Which makes sense in a built environment that makes any other mode undignified.
