Filthy, crowded cages. Dead baby birds. Birds suffocated to death. This is the reality for parrots in the pet industry. Hundreds of thousands of parrots are bred in mills and shipped to pet stores across the US every year.

Elephants at our partner sanctuary, Elephant Forest Phitsanulok, enjoy life free from chains, rides, and tourist exploitation. What was once a traditional elephant camp with riding, feeding, and bathing has been fully transformed into a venue where elephants can live and roam peacefully.

This rescued anteater enjoys digging for ants as enrichment during his rehabilitation. World Animal Protection supports the Instituto Tamandua's “Orphans of the Fires Project” (Projeto Órfãos do fogo) in Brazil, where anteaters are rescued, rehabilitated, and ultimately returned to the wild.

Joyce's enclosure is about 1 acre, which is roughly 700,000 times smaller than an African Elephant would have in the wild. There is little enrichment and no shade structures—an unsuitable environment for any elephant. But alternatives exist.

For decades, Joyce has lived in captivity. Since 2010, she’s been kept at Six Flags Wild Safari in New Jersey, in an enclosure alarmingly close to the park’s roller coasters and heavy vehicle routes. A theme park is no place for an elephant. Visit FreeJoyce.org to take action for Joyce.
Joyce stands in her enclosure at Six Flags. "FREE JOYCE" is shown in large text right above her.
