Are you arguing humans shouldn’t eat fish?? Mmmm….

That was exactly my thought. It would be very interesting to find out which individual on the editorial staff of the BBC is keen to recycle Reform style talking points and give this ludicrous hypocrite more chance to express his bitter take on life.

I made a small online contribution to the ADHD debate pointing out the need to investigate whether there are any neurological causes linking the symptoms that merit an ADHD diagnosis and was stunned by the anti scientific, anti philosophical, defensive nature of the response! What’s going on???

Please don’t attribute words to me that I haven’t written. I am not denying the validity of ADHD. I am actually just repeating what the DSM and ICD manuals say about it. And I don’t get your 2 hour point. Am not attached to laptop. Signing off now feel free to ignore everything I’ve said.

My point about BigPharma was that they’ve promoted the serotonin theory of depression in part to boost sales of antidepressants and it’s worked spectacularly. Not quite sure why you’re so down on Moncrieff’s book Chemically Unbalanced published 2025 have you reviewed it somewhere?

Suggest you write a paper refuting the evidence she presents in ‘Chemically Unbalanced’ then.

That’s just a smear. Are you saying there is a known cause for ADHD and that we know the mechanism by which Ritalin works? If so, point me to the scientific paper. I’m always happy to be shown to be wrong.

It certainly hasn’t been abandoned by BigPharma re the serotonin debate. That is a disease model of depression. See eg Joanna Moncrieff’s book called Chemically Unbalanced.

I’m surprised(amazed) that you as a doctor are saying ‘it doesn’t really mean anything’ if we can’t identify a cause for any variety of medical or psychiatric condition. For a start it means that we have no idea why any form of treatment might work or why it might be contraindicated.

Unless you can point me to the scientific paper I don’t think there is a known neurochemical cause of ADHD. I’ve no axe to grind here just interested in what is scientifically known. There are correlations between ADHD diagnoses and variations in neurotransmitter levels which might be significant.

Which means there is a debate to be had on what any drugs are actually doing. The same is true for antidepressants.

workplacedemocrat.bsky.social @workplacedemocrat.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Although be aware that ADHD (like many other potential diagnoses in the DSM manual) is a syndrome and the diagnosis is made based on the exhibition of the requisite symptoms. There is no known underlying neurological cause which definitively confirms the diagnosis.

A lot of it imo is performative ideological opposition to a view that is perceived to be left wing or ‘woke’…and that’s it…..think you could then start looking at all manner of issues to do with self image and mental health/illness

The only problem here is that there are very significant scientific and philosophical reasons to question the use of antidepressants see Joanna Moncrieff ‘Chemically Unbalanced’ for instance. RFK is of course criticising them on spurious irrational grounds. cr

@mrjamesob.bsky.social the reason Burnham needs to take over is that he’s the only potential Labour leader who can win over potential Reform and Green voters. Starmer has completely lost support of left over his tacit support of ethnic cleansing of Gaza. @lbc.co.uk

With the greatest respect, I don’t think you’ve fully twigged how essentially reactionary these Labour centrists are…..reactionary in the sense that in any crucial issue such as trans, Gaza, work place democracy….,they always side with the right.
