I have to admit the minute I read "In February, he announced his $5bn start-up Ineffable Intelligence." I started to zone out. There may be some fantastic possibilities for AI but the increasingly grandiose and/or hysterical predictions about what it will become are starting to feel like a grift.

They love whining about how we Europeans are freeloading off their defense, until they need European bases for their pointless foreign wars and rendition of "enemy combatants" that is. If you don't like it boys, then get the fuck off our land.

Rick and Morty is a truly terrible show, its basically just unfunny performative swearing. A poor man's Fat Abbot.

The whole bias thing kills me. I'm pretty sure Andrew Marr, Evan Davies and David Dimbleby weren't raging lefties but I'd take them over the crap journalism and blatant bias of Kuenssberg, Robinson and Bruce any day of the week.

Perhaps I should have said nonsensical instead of unaffordable

The triple lock pension is simply unaffordable. State pension spending is currently £154 billion per year, equal to defence and education combined, and up £40 billion in real terms from 2010. The IFS forecasts that by 2050, it could rise by up to £40 billion. ifs.org.uk/articles/wha...

What do you need to know about the triple lock? | Institute for Fiscal Studies
The triple lock has boosted the level of the state pension over time and it creates high and uncertain costs for the future.

Vaguely related question; given that you can now make a pretty tidy living from College football, would it be theoretically possible for a player to take a masters, then a PhD then another PhD etc. and essentially play College football until they retire?

In AI circular funding news, Nvidia has just bought back $150 billion of its own stock, leading to a 2% rise in its share price and a big boost to execs share price linked salaries. A reminder: stock buybacks were illegal until 1982 as they were considered market manipulation.

Sadly the far right will judge whether they are UK nationals based on the colour of their skin, not on the contents of their passports.

A bitter paradox: people now have less disposable income to pay for quality journalism, just as it becomes apparent what a disaster "free" online journalism was for civil society in the long run

Defence accounts for 3.1% of GDP ($1.05 trillion) so why don't people that can't pay their bills just sell an F35 or two?

The story of the last 20 years in the West is the story of a rolling economic crisis, leading to years of grinding austerity and falling living standards, blamed on foreigners by the ruling class that caused and ultimately benefitted from the economic crisis.

Worth stating again for the record that "productivity" is not a time and motion study of the productiveness of workers, it's just GDP divided by hours worked.

Economically speaking all parties are at best, centre right. They still embrace the creed of private sector knows best, small government, low taxes (for the wealthy and corporations) trickle down bollocks that gave us the 2008 financial crisis and from which ordinary people have never recovered.

Maybe there wouldn't be so many benefit claimants in Falkirk if tax dodger Sir Jim hadn't closed the Grangemouth refinery. Also FWIW, his 'reforms' at Man United (getting rid of tea ladies mainly) coincided with United's lowest league position in 51 years

It's almost as if cutting social care to the bone for 15 years, leads to a surge in mental health cases. Who'd have thought it? Just another example of the short term sugar rush savings of austerity being dwarfed by the crippling costs of decimating those services.
