Will our lives be more comfortable? Or will we be just as lonely, and just as much in need of people who love us?

This story reads like a thought experiment - what might our life be like, as old people in ageist world, trying to hold on to shreds of autonomy, while living in smart homes with AI assistants and appliances?

This sad story about a lonely old woman, at the end of the world, running a shoe store and reminiscing about the family and friends she has lost, is the 2022 winner of The Salam Award.

In this layered story, which is a meditation on grief, on how the loss of a child can splinter a family and more, a child unknowingly strikes a deal with the devil to bring her dead brother back to life.

This is a story about communication. About languages — spoken and unspoken; and who we speak to, and who we fail to speak to, and how we can reach out and make a connection even when there is no common language. It's tender and hopeful.

A woman trying to make a decision about her long awaited pregnancy tries to confide in her hyper religious mother. This story left me feeling unsettled on many levels. And right at the point when I felt that maybe I was wrong, it ended with an image that made me question myself all over again.

With Poirot laid down by influenza, it's up to Captain Hastings to investigate. Will his letters to Poirot contain enough clues for him (and for you, the reader) to solve the mystery?

What if the Battle of Panipat had taken a different turn — how different could Indian history have been then? This humourous story by the astrophysicist and writer, Jayant Narlikar, explores one possibile answer to that question.

The astronauts aboard the ISS were amazed by the April 8 solar eclipse, just like the rest of us, and went crazy snapping photos from orbit. They got some amazing views of the Moon's shadow sweeping across southern Canada & Maine: www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2... 🧪🔭
The Moon's shadow, or umbra, is pictured covering portions of the Canadian provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick and the American state of Maine in this photograph from the International Space Station as it soared into the solar eclipse from 261 miles (420 km) above. The Moon's shadow, or umbra, is pictured covering portions of the Canadian provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick and the American state of Maine in this photograph from the International Space Station as it soared into the solar eclipse from 261 miles (420 km) above. The Moon's shadow, or umbra, is pictured covering portions of the Canadian provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick and the American state of Maine in this photograph from the International Space Station as it soared into the solar eclipse from 261 miles (420 km) above.
