But I hadn’t given it much thought, if at all. Because when she leaves for the day and I’m left to my own devices until Dad comes home for dinner, I snatch a can of beer or two from our fridge and keep them inside my room. Then I finish my homework to prevent my thoughts from spiraling, eat dinner, and it isn’t until a few weeks that I’m able to watch reruns of Beating the Baby Blues on TV. And when the episode ends and I’m left feeling hollow, I lock myself inside my room and count on the beers I’ve stolen—now lukewarm and gross—to calm myself enough to sleep. I get around six hours in on a good day. Most days, though, I end up waking a good three or four hours before Paula comes and tutors me again. If the lack of sleep and increasing alcohol dependence did show on my face, she said nothing.

These were the words that came from the stars when humanity stood on the brink. Years of devasting global war had sent the planet Earth into a death spiral. With the major governments on the verge of total collapse, the Jada Empire came to offer Humanity a second. To evacuate as many humans from their dying world as they can and uplift them into galactic society. Giving humanity a second chance at life.

Terra-Renatus

The new home for humanity. Terra-Renatus is a quiet moon resting within the borders of the Jada Empire. Granted to the refugees of Earth by Empress Celestia to start rebuilding themselves. Slowly acclimating into the greater Galactic Society they have been welcomed into.

Elise Clarke

One of the first arrivals of the refugee world of Terra-Renatus and member of the colonial militia. Elise Clarke looks to build a new stable life for herself and her adopted sister. Which is made all the more difficult by the trauma she endured on her war torn homeworld 8 years earlier. Her new life is turned upside down when Molzren pirates attack the Colony in a attempt to abduct the Empress' cousin. The kidnapping is thwarted by Clarke's heroic actions which leads to her being enlisted into the Royal Navy by Captain Lan Rigoc. The first human to be given the honor. Setting her on a new adventure.

Water breathed, and Clementine drew a breath, shallow and cold. The taste of wood and salt lay in a heavy coat atop her tongue. She’d come here for quiet, yet the ocean thrashed and quaked in the cavity of her chest, filling its emptiness with a transparent and insurmountable longing.

It was a Thursday, and Thursdays were the worst night of the week. The night you got if you played well enough to fill the slot, but not popular enough for the weekend rush. Clementine had only ever been scheduled for Thursdays.

#WIPSnips from “Puppeteer: Under the Moonlight”, a side WIP from my larger superhero verse, STRATH MAGNA. may or may not be related to wotw 👁️👁️

A manic, gold-plated grin met Dalbit’s teary, terrified eyes. The man’s approach with him differed from how he knocked Haneul out—he took slow, deliberate steps as Dalbit scrambled backwards until he hit a dead end, akin to a predator toying with its prey in hopes that they’d taste delicious with fear oozing out of its body, and a part of him just wanted it to be over. If he had to meet his demise, so be it.

“Can’t let kids off the hook anymore, can ya?” The man’s shadow began to overtake Dalbit’s figure. “Can’t let ‘em grow up and go on a revenge crusade against us.”

Dalbit closed his eyes as tight as he could and curled up into a ball, arms raised defensively in preparation of the beating he was about to get. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry—

“Hey, what the fuck?”

The heavy footsteps ceased. Behind his eyelids, it was as if the sun had returned above him. It was as if the shadows had somehow disappeared, but that was impossible, because he could still feel the man’s presence right where he stopped moving, no more than a yard in front of him—

Dalbit dared himself to look.

The man’s shadow no longer loomed above him. Instead there was a strange black outline resting against his arms—one that oddly resembled the man’s physique. It felt no heavier than a piece of paper, but the texture was unlike anything he’d ever touched before. If smoke trails could lightly brush against your fingertips as it rose up in the air, this would be the closest estimate to what it would feel like. It was ticklish, but only to serve the purpose of letting Dalbit know that he was not hallucinating things, if he hadn’t already figured it out from the man’s reaction. From the corner of his vision, he noticed that the wall had returned to its original orange-red. Bright. Shadowless.

He hurled the silhouette towards the man as a final resort.

Ten minutes into drafting his pitch for next month’s episode, Noe’s phone screen lights up next to his laptop.
Congrats team, the notification banner reads, We’ve hit 1.2% with the Moyer episode.
If anything, with the amount of buzz brought by that A-lister brat, it would make more sense to call it The Mitchell Episode instead, but it turns out that the brief awkwardness in Azra’s segment was nothing compared to what had come out of Darcy Mitchell’s mouth in their interview. So much that their name hasn’t left anyone’s mouth upon leaving the studio, and clearly Azra had left a good enough impression for him to be the production team’s poster child of success. If Noe isn’t seated at the corner of his go-to coffee shop right now, he would’ve let out an obnoxiously loud, incredulous laughter at the thought.
Either way, he ought to send Azra a message as a token of appreciation (albeit most likely unwarranted). Noe ignores the unceasing “Well done!”s popping up at the top of his screen and opens the chat history right underneath the production team’s group chat.
Hey superstar—Noe hits send without a second thought—Just wanted to thank your pretty face for boosting our ratings.
