No idea why AI / “super intelligence 🙈 feels the need to add ‘CC’ into that sentence, or why Bluesky still doesn’t believe in edit functions, but here we are!

They’ll be trying to work out how to incorporate CC’half time’ sponsorship. Maybe shoot him once, 15 minute advertising break, then finish him off 🤔

I think we’ll be waiting hours or days for that one.

Forgetting his name would be the greatest punishment. Instead they’ve just given him a new lease of (metaphorically) eternal life as a martyr and brought new life to the almost forgotten cause he represented.

I’ve been learning about the Spanish civil war. There’s some concerning similarities regarding current political polarisation across the western world ATM. Still, authoritarian right wing maniacs distributing fear & retribution via firing squads wasn’t on my bingo card for at least ten years

There’s ( understandably ) too much well intentioned optimism and wishful thinking on this subject. I feel this article does not fall into that category. I try and play devils advocate to imagine how RU can come back from this. They may neuter the new tactics. But their days of progress are gone.

Perhaps… though is the situation from the EU now somewhat more existential than political? Maybe a more flexible framework ( everyone gets their little quota of opt outs ) is the sustainable future for the EU.?

It’s good… but unless the ‘progressive’ majority ( a pretty much constant feature of UK politics ) can put aside intersectional infighting & purity tests / single issue voting, then it will come to nothing. As the hardcore 36% odd, will, as with Trump, coalesce around the right and win as a minority

Imagine the communists coming to the rescue. Disposing Putin and nationalising the oligarchs operations. Wouldn’t that be a turn up for the books! Possibly the only viable alternative to chaos ATM ?

A ‘kill switch’ isn’t some hidden device, or even identifiable code. It’s merely a way, a known weakness, to disrupt hardware or software. Think about a subscription ending. What good is your software and consequently the hardware it’s in if you haven’t got that 16 character code?

I live in a modest house on a modest income. My ‘problem’ yesterday was that we have too much nice food to eat before it expires. That made me stop and think for a while.

Yeah we’re definitely into the ‘V’ weapon stage of the war.

Yes thanks for the info. I was alluding to the linguist quirk of candle & suppository being the same (?) word! Sticking a candle in their ass as they crawl to the tsar / Putin.

I guess that’s a logical place to hold a candle when you live on your hands and knees.

Blockading such things is in the French DNA. ‘Civilian’ gangs violently attacking them is an import from Russia where football hooligan ‘ultras’ are used for the same purpose.

I see young men ( presumably unemployed it’s a working day) pushing and attacking peaceful female protesters. If you’re pro Ukraine / Anti Russia. You might want to take a break from peddling their well funded divisive agenda. The point of which, is to elect governments that will abandon Ukraine

Only downside is we’ll lose the useful tit bits like rising invalid payments etc that we can use to help monitor the effects of the war. They release lots of things without internal consequences due to zero freedom of press & accountability.

Seems big business all still have this rather selective “vetting process”

woodwizard.bsky.social @woodwizard.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Years ago you had to apply to take business card payments. I recall being sat in my physical shop with the bank rep as he explained we might not pass the strict security vetting process… Meanwhile the same bank was under sustained pressure to cease taking card payments for CSAM sites in Russia!

Have I misunderstood your original comment? I thought you were referring to European lack of gun culture. Perhaps you meant European softness towards Russia?

woodwizard.bsky.social @woodwizard.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Why don’t you move to a part of the world where people with guns will steel your property? Then you can go live out your fantasy! I hear New Mexico is best if you’re a home invasion enthusiast, the Red Sea near Somalia if you like boats. Mexico & Brazil for thrill on the highway. Enjoy!

Top tip : You simply need to market it in a way that justifies the killing of more brown people and you’ll not just have a centre & memorial, but effective control of the narrative & media.

What is the basis of anti Rutte sentiment here? He walks a tightrope of NATO unity and individual nations can still speak at various volumes. This is not the USSR.. plus this is true. US distraction on Asia makes Putin more bold in the west. This would be an error, but Putin is not Sun Zu

I’m not American nor ex serviceman. But we have a similar problem here in the UK. Trust is hard to earn, and impossible to buy back once you’ve squandered it. Without honour we are nothing.

If any of my mutuals could share this it would mean the world to me. The Afghani's who fought beside us and their families deserve so so much better... If you have time write a letter to Congress to #countthemin and honor our commitments! afghanevac.org/count-them-in

I say again: the Iranian regime doesn’t run on money or oil. It runs on hate. And USA / Israel have gifted them another generation of hate. The dumbest of wars in a long list of strong contenders.

I suspect they overestimate the value of the fear factor among western audiences. The usual suspects will cry louder, but posturing & threats plays badly to the majority. Especially the British & French. Eastern Europe doesn’t get to sit on the fence. So on balance I see this as a misjudgment for RU

There’s no going back. Trump is the result, not the cause of a long standing shift in American attitudes. Or at least enough of them to matter. They’ll elect someone just as divisive, but less batshit in six or ten years time. The people pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Years ago I conceived the idea of “the tungsten kid”. It’s a solid tungsten dummy of a child that slides out in front of those “amazing” drivers that think speed limits are for lesser beings. Let’s see how the car looks after that real world test. No insurance payout. No seatbelt = Darwinism.

I think at least 20 years for that. Too many my age (50+) still wedded to post colonial / WW2 ‘greatness’ and the £ is a symbol of that. Despite the obvious fallacy of that idea every time we go abroad now. Days of the 80 pence pint on a foreign beach long gone.

Very true. Though I think we’re close to the point of maximum return on investment for China. Russia & the US permanently weakened, but a need to avoid global instability that could undermine the CCP domestically. A resurgent Europe is no threat to China and vice verca.

The refinery strikes stop when they have enough patriots to protect their own energy infrastructure. Simple. Except not simple due to the orange one’s gulf adventure. So a winter energy war it is. It will be a hard winter in Ukraine and Russia, but at least the Ukrainians have a cause. Survival.
