Huge thanks to our volunteers for putting up these posters to help shine a light on the uncomfortable facts about #WoodBurning. Here's a selection from London, Sheffield and Manchester. Can you think twice about burning? #CleanAirNight
A pink poster on a tree, the text says "Clean Air Night. If you can smell wood burning, you're breathing in harmful air pollution". The front window of a house. There is a woman holding a child, standing in the window. The window has three pink posters attached to it. A pink poster on a tree on a pavement, the text says "Clean Air Night. If you can smell wood burning, you're breathing in harmful air pollution". A pink poster on a community noticeboard, the text says "Clean Air Night. It's #CleanAirNight. Can you rethink burning, tonight and beyond? Wood burning creates tiny particles of pollution (including soot and carbon) that lodge deep in our bodies and make us sick. This doesn't just affect the household burning, but their neighbours, too.
“Lighting fires in our homes is one of the largest sources of fine particulate air pollution in the UK.” Text is next to an illustration of smoke coming out of a chimney. At the bottom are the logos for Clean Air Night, Global Action Plan and Impact on Urban Health, next to the reference “UK Government Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs, 2025”.

Impact on Urban Health @impurbanhealth.bsky.social · 22/01/2026
Air pollution from wood burners and open fires contributes to an average of 3,741 cases of diabetes and 1,493 cases of asthma in the UK each year. Learn more: urbanhealth.org.uk/insights/news/wo…
“We’ve always used the wood burner, especially during the winter. But then over time, I started to get wheezing in my chest, and I always had a lot of chest infections, I’ve really suffered quite badly with chest infections.” - Laura, Birmingham.

Share the facts about woodburning this #CleanAirNight. The quote is appearing in a cloud of smoke appearing from an illustrated wood burner. The logo for Clean Air Night and the date 22 January 2026 is in the bottom corner.
