The @crsn-uk.bsky.social and @ics.bsky.social #classicalreception series comes full circle on 15 June with Nuraliah Norasid talking about #Medusa, videogames and Malay identity in her #SingLit novel The Gatekeeper. This one hits different: the novel inspired my entire thesis. Registration link👇.

For one night only (June 8), @tomzanker.bsky.social peels back the veil of time and revives the memory of the Philippines’ lost ilustrado classicism via the art of painter Juan Luna. Colonial mimicry or postcolonial syncretism? You decide More details and registration: ics.sas.ac.uk/news-events/...

Been sitting on this one for a while but my first publication (in a non-peer reviewed journal) is out! I talk about the South Korean webtoon Delusion and what happens when Dracula goes to Shanghai instead of London. Many thanks to @qaqv.bsky.social for giving my very niche topic a platform!

In many ways, The Gatekeeper was the book that started it all. Next month, I finally get around to talking about it. Not forgetting my other Sing Lit favourite, The Formidable Miss Cassidy, of course. Grateful to AcademiaSG for the opportunity! www.academia.sg/events/lesli... #SingLit

Submitting the PhD thesis felt like a significant enough milestone to revive this long-dormant account, so here I am. I talk about how some postcolonial adaptations in Asia should be seen as “writing through” instead of “writing back”.
