An orange cat peers down through a hole in the ceiling. It is wide-eyed, possibly in shockm Below is the caption "Ceiling Cat is watching you masturbate.".

Pinky and the Brain, from the eponymous series.

Pinky, a dumb mouse, asks "What we gonna do today[,] Brain?"

The Brain, a mouse with a gigantic cranium, replies, "The same thing we do every[ ]day[,] Pinky[...]"

(Sorry about the terrible punctuation in the meme; it was the only copy I could find with this exact fragment of dialog.)

Thanos makes the best Lucifer.
page from SECRET WARS: BATTLEWORLD: SIEGE #4, part of SECRET WARS 2015, by Kieron Gillen and Filipe Andrade.

The Thing and Thanos (who is chained) are talking in Thanos's prison cell.

The Thing: Thanos, I don't know whether to punch you or hug the hell out of you.
Fugget it, I do.

[Full panel of Thing punching Thanos in the jaw.]

Thing: What now?
Thanos, knocked to the ground: Doom has asked you to live on your knees. Every day of your life, he's beaten you as you lie there.

What do you do?

Thanos, standing, breaking his chains with a flex: YOU STAND UP.

Thanos, proudly: What time is it, Ben Grimm? WHAT TIME IS IT?

From WRESTLE HEIST #3, by Kyle Starks
Two panels from a comic.
Panel one: Two sisters--Emily dressed in a pro wrestling costume and Evelyn in a loose top and skirt--are talking excitedly on a ramp beside a ring while a man in a suit, Buddy, sits watching them.
Caption 1: Her twin sister Evelyn was her manager and they made a great pair.
Caption 2: Buddy was smitten with Emily the moment he saw her.

Panel 2: Closer in on Buddy, who looks agitated.
Caption 1: But monsters don't know how to love.
Caption 2: They only know how to covet.

Once when my brother was visiting, I went to wake him as he had requested. "No. Go 'way." "You told me to wake you now." "Go away and bring me an ocelot." So I brought him an ocelot. He took it, nodded approval, and got up. Years later, the ocelot became the guardian of Tim's mortal remains.

Name a TV show you're positive no one remembers but you.
Promo image for FLYING BLIND. The tag line Mild Meets Wild illustrates a shot of two people, a schlubby man (Corey Parker) in a sportcoat and tie leaning, stunned, on the woman who stunned him, a tall redhead in a strapless dress and veil-like skirt (Téa Leoni).

I haven't seen it since it came out nearly 35+ years ago; I remember it being more witty and maybe less sexist than you would assume for a loser-dates-supermodel sitcom on early FOX.

Also "The Problem We All Live With"
A painting of 9-year-old Ruby Bridges, a black girl in a white dress and shoes. She is walking to school with books under her arm.

Surrounding her front and back are four adults in suits, escorting and protecting her. They are so much taller than she that their heads are off the top of the canvas.

On the stone wall behind her is scrawled graffiti "IGGER". A tomato hit the wall and lies broken at its base.

Shane Simmons says hello.
A page from a French translation of Shane Simmon's LONGSHOT COMICS. It is a grid of 80 comics panels with characters rendered as dots. A magnifying lens hovers over one panel, showing the (fake) exquisite detail in each panel.

LONGSHOT COMICS is an overlooked masterpiece, not just a formal joke. It's clever and funny and genuinely moving and show how little it actually takes to get a reader engaged with a comics page.

The NPC Record Sheet in GRIFFIN MOUNTAIN (1981) had a list of personality factors that really seem like a rough draft for PENDRAGON's Traits. I don't know if there's a record of who came up with this--would most likely have been Rudy Kraft, Jennell Jaquays, or Greg Stafford.

Without stating your age post your favorite film released the year you turned 18. Much better year for comedies than drama or horror but this one is the standout.
Kilian Eng DVD box art for VIDEODROME. A man with a mechanical apparatus covering his head sits half-facing us, turned away from an array of televisions that display unsettling things. A disembodied (and possibly flayed) forearm and hand hold a blood-soaked gun that is merging into the hand. The muted palette and calm composition of the illustration amplify the eerie effect.

This summation from an NYR article on the French protofascist Marquis de Morès really hit me: "Clown Show" by Mark Lilla, March 26 2026 www.nybooks.com/articles/202...
Even more, [these economic and social dislocations] open up opportunities for theatrical figures who are not driven by ideas at all, let alone principles, only by an insatiable need for attention and approbation and an instinctive sense of what will capture the public’s ephemeral imagination. These are the jokers in the pack each age gives us. They have no serious ideological lineage to trace, only the wreckage of things they have corrupted or destroyed trailing behind them.

Best Star Trek crew. Wrong answers only.
Publicity shot for 1977's short-lived science fiction parody QUARK. Richard Benjamin is seated in the middle of a crew of interstellar garbage collectors. He and two male-appearing crew are in blue worksuits; two female-appearing twins are in gold halters and short shorts; and a balding man to the far right wears a turtleneck and open jacket. They are all smiling and it is cheesy in a way only low-budget 1970s sf could manage.

If only there were some exotic compound word that could convey the sense of being stabbed in the back during wartime by a band of rootless cosmopolitans.
The cover to a right-wing magazine, the South German Monthly, from April 1924. It is a rough cartoon of a Great War German soldier face-down, dead on the ground with a "dagger" the size of his entire body stuck into his shoulders and neck.

The caption is "Der Dolchstoss", "the dagger stab", a potent myth within the post-War German right wing that Germany only lost the Great War because of treachery from the Far Left and the Jews.

The Dolchstoßlegende is one of the mainstays of fascism and justifies turning the instruments of war against one's own citizens who are insufficiently pro-fascist.

Of course I studied the classics
The cover to Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #133 by Jack Kirby

There is so much going on here.

Across the top, a banner of KIRBY IS HERE!
The logo is Superman's EX-Pal, the NEW Jimmy Olsen

The main action is a wild man--long hair, thick beard, sunglasses--driving a futuristic wide-tired motorcycle right into Superman, who is knocked backward. The man shouts, "Jimmy Olsen's our Leader! HE gives the orders!" Riding behind him, an enraged Jimmy shouts, "GUN HIM DOWN!"

Another motorcycle rider trails behind them, having jumped off a wooden ramp. More cycles stream down the ramps from an odd wooden modular building.

Below that is a blurb "Introducing the Newsboy Legion", with a bunch of portraits of smiling teen boys beside. "Plus the Wondrous WHIZ WAGON! You gotta SEE it... to BELIEVE it!" stands beside a vehicle that is clearly half-RV, half fighter jet.
