@womenforindy.bsky.social have put out a statement on the absolutely abhorrent SPUC fringe at SNP conference glad to see pushback on this and hope more groups follow suit - we cannot let groups like SPUC erode our rights with wedge issues like this

Our Statement On The SNP Conference Anti-Abortion Fringe Group

Women for Independence are absolutely appalled to see the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, an anti-abortion group being platformed at the upcoming SNP conference.

Despite the event being presented as raising awareness on 'The reality of coerced abortion', this is merely a progressive veil for their outdated and bigoted beliefs.

The organisation is against the widespread use of contraception, morning after pills, abortion decriminalisation, most forms of sex education, and advocates for heavy restrictions to be placed on women's access to abortion.

We believe these measures, if implemented, would themselves amount to reproductive coercion of women to carry unwanted pregnancies.
Our Statement On The SNP Conference Anti-Abortion Fringe Group

The SPUC also has a deeply troubling record of homophobia, opposing same-sex marriage and encouraging parents to withdraw their children from sex and relationships education classes mentioning Igbtqia+ relationships.

We know these views don't align with the vast majority of party members, only two years ago party members passed a resolution to enshrine the right to abortion in the constitution of an independent Scotland.

We're shocked that in this day and age, a typically feminist party is actively choosing to platform this group. We're concerned about the message this sends to Scottish women - that our rights are up for debate and that the governing party supports that.

We call on the party to no longer permit this fringe group to go ahead - there is still time.

We highly encourage conference delegates to boycott this event, we need to send a clear message, that these kinds of extremist views are not welcome in the discourse on how to achieve an equal and independent Scotland.
