Up until this February, I had hopes of refinancing my house this year. My mortgage is at 7.125% and it had gotten as low as 5.98% before the war. I was gonna refi at 5.5%. Now it's just about to crack 7%. Yay.

Looking at the forecast, it looks like I may have turned on the AC for the final time in 2026. 1994's finest lives to cool another year. (assuming the furnace doesn't crap out over the winter but it's in much better shape than the AC condenser so I'm fairly confident)

Concerned about oil prices? Me too. We're probably a day or two away from setting a price record for diesel, and I don't see any relief in sight. Yeah, I do own an EV. My personal cost of getting places is basically fixed. But guess what, everything I buy arrives in town on a diesel truck.

Did some math on the new car. 73 miles cost me $2.50 in electricity, so that's 3.4 cents a mile. For my old Prius to match that, gas would have to be $1.60/gal. For a comparable sized gas SUV to my new car, it would have to be like 80-90 cents/gal. Kinda feels like a life hack NGL

Perhaps my biggest electrical pet peeve is when people refer to US electricity as "one ten." It's 120v. ±5%, but still 120v base. If you're getting 110v out of your plugs, your utility is doing something wrong. And yes I know one ten is fewer syllables than one twenty, but it's also just wrong.

My uncle in Utah uses a mishmash mix of incandescent, CFL, and LED bulbs in his house, often with clashing color temps, and my ADHD ass can't imagine caring that little about lighting. I've got matching LED bulbs throughout my house because I'd go nuts otherwise.
