This is the compelling sentiment shared by MLK.Jr in his Letter from a Birmingham Jail. It is just as relevant now as it was then. I suggest that anyone who hasn't read it yet, reads it today to start off the New Year. And, it's always a good refresher for those who are familiar with it.

So, I know the initial camera images weren't much to go on, but I can't be the only person who thought that the 1st suspect didn't seem like a decent match at al.. The one thing I could glean from the photo was the guy was kinda dumpy/unfit. First guy seemed too slender, no?🧐 Must've sucked for him.

His ancestors came to settle in a city that was approximately 40-50% foreign born!! That was a period when immigrants actually flooded into our country, when there wasn't enough housing available. Yet this influx, with all it's challenges, didn't break NYC, they BUILT IT!! KNOW OUR HISTORY!!

"I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season."

I feel like the faux civility makes it so much worse. It is hypocrisy. It is dishonest, in the most cowardly way. It is insidious & far more dangerous. I go back & reread MLKjr's Birmingham jail letter during times like this. It seems more true today then when he wrote it, if that's possible.
